Cecil - Your Unknown Parent Tree

Cecil,
i dont know if you keep any type of paper work where and when your tree's came from but if you do here are a few pictures of the parent tree with a few pairs of figs ripening. Im thinking your tree should have a more uniform ripening of the figs and not as sporadic as mine due to our climate. I keep my own little paper work so i can remember the age and place of origin and the type of tree. This one just did not turn out to be what it was originally bought as. Anyhoot this is what you have to look forward to.

Awesome tree Martin. The figs are huge. One of these days I'll hit you up for a trade.

We keep records of sorts Martin,

Sticky tabs all over my computer desk!

I am really looking forward to my Martin's unknown giving me & my better 1/2
some of those beautiful figs,   I am going to have to load all my firearms to get ready to fend off my Sister-in-law that will be sneaky enough to come from her side of our road over here & "kipe" (means to take without permission), (more Tx slang) My figs! What a nice problem to have HUH?

Cecil

Cecil- since you are a fellow Texan ;) What types of fig trees do you have?  Im just curious what does well for you, and what doesnt.  My best ones seem to be the unknown local ones give to me as cuttings. Kimberly

Cecil,
one record you probably won't have to keep on this one is the taste , i don't think you will forget how good it actually is.

my daughter and i just had 2 late afternoon, these 2 were the sweetest so far this year oh my and to me they tasted better than my Sal's figs which are sweet, but what struck me about the unknown's i ate today they were sweeter and had a honeydew melon after taste which had me longing for more so i say they were better than Sal's just plain melted away in my mouth oh gosh i cant wait for you to taste!

Steve if your in a cold location such as mine it will do the same ripen late for you. But i dont give up i like the challenge, the tate of this particular fig, its last to ripen when others tree's are done but if it gets cold during that short window i only taste a couple,  this year the weather has been warmer later than the other years and the taste and size is fabulous for me. Let me know (remind me i forget) and i fix one up for you in the spring.

Cecil- Thanks for the remedy, I must have missed your earlier post answering, sorry! Do you get copper spray at the nursery? I tried at Lowes and got a blank look from them :)
Steve- Bellas got a root!

Kim - Got one too. Small, but they grow pretty long quickly.

They were very easy to get started, do any of the cuttings have signs of roots?

Yes the Bellas have some initials that are turning into roots. The others are not yet but have a few initials and some green buds. Except the unknown of course like I described in my email.

Kim

We got our copper from Walmart (who else ?;)

But to answer your question about Nursery's having it, they should.

the name of mine is ferti-lome blackspot powdery mildew & control 23%
copper hydroxide

Hope you can find it, I used it on my tomato's.

Cecil

Cecil,
Those stinkers said it was a seasonal product so I will get it when I start the garden in the Fall. Thank you for the help!
Kim

I saw some in a local nursery. Try looking around. The Walmarts and Home Depots are very seasonal. Support your local guy! Good luck.

Thanks Steve! I bet they do have it. But Im afraid to go, I will want to buy stuff... What to do?? ;)

Kim, hand over that credit card! You are trouble!

hahahaha, Better stay home huh!

Better to stay home and figure out why your new "smiley" face seems a little concerned with those furrowed brows!

He looks a like, as my Daughter would say, "Hes feeling a little serious."  :))

Hey Martin whats the secret to getting a fig tree to look like yours? I Mean that short with such a thick trunk, would love to have mine like that.

Hey there Nelson.
Thats no secret it comes with being older and keeping it trim the top and sides it does the rest by itself .
That particular tree was given to a forum member who picked it today at noon its now gone but i will always remember the plant as it was my 2nd one .
