10 different figs

A few firsts for me in Genovese Nero, Noire de Caromb, Red Sicilian Bifara, and Corynth. Some were picked early ahead of rain. In the case of GN, it was before a fig explosion.

Petite Negra- tasted like a cross between VDB and Hardy Chicago.

Ronde De Bordeaux- this one was well ripened and sweet. It is a quality fig and it's good but there's a floral aftertaste that prevents it from being great to me.

Red Sicilian Bifara- a sweet little berry flavored fig

Fico Preto- very sweet with fruity aftertaste. Honey sealed the eye.

Gino's- like all Mt. Etna figs they are full of jammy goodness when the skin is cracked and a little wrinkled.

Noire de Caromb- very high quality fig with tight eye. It was sweet with slight figginess. My wife liked this Gino's and Longue d'aout the best.

Genovese Nero- I rescued this from exploding so it wasn't fully ripe. However, it was pretty sweet and the flesh was delicate. There are others swelling so I will update.

Longue d'aout- my favorite this year. Normally VDB and Mt. Etna figs are my favorite but this year LDA is the winner so far. Huge jammy goodness. It helps if you let it sit on the counter overnight.

Corynth- tastes like a soft skinned Kadota so far. It is prolific.

JH Adriatic- my favorite green fig. Very sweet with nice acid balance. If the skin wasn't as thick it would be my favorite.

Which one tasted the best? I hope my Preto and Genovese Nero get ripe soon.

So how did they taste...
Particularly the Preto

Looks nice.  I'm also hoping for flavor descriptions.

Jason, what do you think about Corynth ? I was given a tree but it rotted away before spring. Still
uncertain whether I want to trial it as I have trial and found many very tasty variants in my collection.

I added small descriptions to main post for my fig friends. Keep in mind taste is subjective and my taste buds aren't 100% right now.

Thanks!

nice presentation . i hope to progress to your level in the near future and be able to showcase my figs too.

Jason, nice presentation. Thanks for sharing

I just had breakfast and you have made me hungry again.

Nice presentation!

LOL, Dale.

Francisco

Great info and what a display of self control.
If it was me ,when faced with a group of figs like that , they would be gone too quickly to organize such beautiful photos !

Jason,
Thanks for posting the pictures, presentation and commentary.

Nice display of great figs, Jason. It is always nice to get a first time taste of figs you've been babying for a couple of years.

Jason if possible let your other Ronde's on tree get little more ripened .

I know this not always possible as birds and things people are afraid of with good reason but if not much a problem try it perhaps and see the difference it makes.

I see this a lot on forum with figs almost ripe but not quite there yet due to folks having to snatch them off tree a tad early not of their fault.
It happened to me the other day with Ronde as i had to pick a few due to daughter leaving for college and her wanting to taste a few .

Hey Jason,
Thanks for posting these pictures and your impressions of the tastes.

I will try Martin. It isn't pests it is the rain. My tree doesn't handle moisture well and the fruit has been turning inside out. This was one of the few this year that didn't split near the eye. I'd love to have a plate like the one you pictured.

Jason...very nice harvest of figs in a not so nice growing season...congratulations.

Yeah i know Jason that is the one negative about Ronde de Bordeaux at least grown in containers i have noticed.
This year rain situation has been minimal but i know what you mean .
