I have one LSU gold that is a day or two away from being ripe.  On the same tree, another fig  will be ripe in 5 days or so.  The other LSU gold, it has more figs, is about a week or so behind.  Here are the photos.
By the way, if you come out of an air conditioned house to hot and humid air, your picutres will look like they were taken in the 1970s.

You're right Bill.  It does look like pictures from the 1970's!  ;-)

And any chance those of you further down South could keep this heat and humidity further down south?  It is hotter than 10 yards of hell out there, but the worst part is the humidity.

I am in climate zone 9 and the humidity is very high with temperatures in the low 90s F.  It feels like over 100 F!   Tonight I was out in the yard for only a few minutes and covered with sweat and the mosquitos were very hungry.  The low temperature last night did not drop much under 80F.


I sometimes try to imagine living in hot and humid weather before air conditioning was invented.

My mother is 71, and grew up here in Texas. I asked her just the other day  what it was like when she was young and no one had air conditioning. She said people just sat around sweating and being miserable, but because *everyone* was miserable, no one realized they were miserable. She said the worst was trying to sleep at night. When I was little, we didn't have air conditioning for a few years, and then when I got married, we didn't have it for a few years. Lived in Texas, too. Guess what? We sat around sweating and were miserable. I like living with old-fashioned ways, but doing without air conditioning is something I would not willingly do ever again.

That fig looks pretty good to me.

I have two humongous figs on my 'Danny's Delight' and am watching them. They may be ready to pick in a day or two. It will be the first one's I've ever had from that vareity.

Very nice Bill I think as the season progresses they will get better. My LSU Gold has some nice size figs on it but no where close to being ripe. My trees didn't come out of dormancy till March-April

Very Nice Bill, Hope you get some that taste better. My little LSU Gold I got from JR last December is really growing fast, but no figlets yet. Maybe it'll put some on later since it is it's first year in ground.

JCA/Good Daughter--I grew up here in Texas Zn9 with no A/C. The only time I can remember being hot was at school. One fan per classroom and it was usually pointed at the teacher. My brother & I used to fight over who was going to sleep on the side of the bed by the window. We did have an attic fan and remember how dusty everything was and everything was always damp in the morning. Got A/C when I was in high school and been spoiled to it ever since. The good ol' days???

Yes, the weather is hot.  Got up today to do yard work at 730am and it was too hot that early.  Did a bit of work around 3 in the afternoon and was drenched in sweat.  I could not imagine not having AC again.
After hurricane Charlie, we did not have electric for a week.  We lived off of camping equipment for cooking.  The doors and windows open, we may have caught a breeze, second floor apartment.  Keep them closed and then you didn’t have to listen to everyone’s generators.

Does LSU Gold’s have two crops?  I think these figs came on the new growth.  I would still call them brebas.
I picked the other one, it ripened up today, again, dry and kind of sweet.
Last year I only let two late (August) figs ripen on this tree; it was still in a pot.  They were very juicy and had more flavor.
