12/21/12 is coming! what are you taking with you?

well, i'm sure it's not going to happen. but if it does i'll be by my family.. and i'm packing my 3 Black Madeira. it was tough choice. i love my VdB, but i had them before. beside, i'm not sure i'm going to heaven, and i heard Black Madeira loves heat :)

This is a tough question!  I have several varieties I've never tried because they are too young to have figs, and I know VdB is wonderful since it produces figs for me bountifully.  Since heaven (I'm going there) is beautiful and everything grows there, I'm packing all my new varieties so I can try them too!

Too funny Pete lol!!!!

A coworker had to ask what I was laughing at.

I didn't know that there was another end of the world date.  So the devil is tempting us with Black Madeira?  So that's the game he's going to play.  I think I read somewhere that Black Madeira does best at high altitudes too and you would be closer to the sun I guess.  You would have access to the top horticultural expert too since he created all of it.

Pete,

Been playing your records backwards again?

It's not a new one. It's the end of the Mayan calendar. They've been talking about this for years. I'm curious which Cali cult will commit mass suicide.
I'm still waiting for Y2K to hit.
If any of you are absolutely certain of the end of the world, PM me and I will send you my address so you can send me cuttings before we go.
But if I had to pick a fig this year, I'd grab VDB, I have several and it was my best/tastiest producer so far.

What will I be taking?......Clean underwear, and loose change....just in case I can't get any change for a Twenty $$$.

I'm going to wait for "The End" in my friend's Fallout-Shelter.

I better pack the ones that can take the heat, and all the Brown Turkey I can tote. Jason can find some joy knowing BT is burning in Hell

11:59 pm dec 21 2012 i know exactly what will happen. in one min it will become 12:00 am dec 22 2012.

If anything is going to happen i have compleat faith in a lack of faith for humanity, thus those who think somthing is going to happen will panic making somthing happen. if my time in the service tought me anything its that people in whole panic. and panic kils people.
example. that first bullet zips by your head. first thing most people do is get behind cover. then who ever fire the first shot fires more. the person ducking for cover has two options at this point. one being to freak out and throw thier arms in the air screamming and run the other way. 90% of people do this and atleast 75% of those get shot or killed. option 2 is to take a deep breath, asses the situation, and react. option 2 allows for better results by far. if you panic next to me, then i will wait until your running and getting shot at then i will make my move. if you are like myself and assesing the situation better for both of us.

Getting shot is not fun, i know. but i dont intend on getting shot in the back eather.

Garden Whispers....

I like your practical approach to "problem solving", and the resulting thinning of the gene pool.  I would've stood up and pointed at you and said:..."HE surrenders"! :)

well the truth is most people dont know how they will react until put into a situation. but likewise no one knows just how far they can or will be willing to go unless put into a situation.

uncle sam has put me in alot of situations so i know the answer to both. once you take away the morality of the situation everything else is so much easier. when pushed this nice guy reacts with intent to kill. in the service it became a reflex action. the shrink says im ok now though so its all good. ;)

Dave-We are friends, right? lol- jk but seriously

oh yeah. no worries

just checkin ;)

The ancient Maya used a number of calendars to measure the passage of time. The Long Count Calendar was used to express the longest period of time and is called the Great Cycle which contains 5,125.36 solar years or 13 Baktuns (each Baktun having 144,000 "kins" or days= 394.3 solar years.

The date which some uneducated people are concerned with, thinking that the world will end is simply the date when the first Great Cycle ends- the 14th Baktun and the 2nd Great Cycle begin. No where in the few Maya texts that exist do they talk about the end or the destruction of the world!
The fear is based on misguided thought, bad science and the gullablity of well intentioned but anthropologically and archaeologically uneducated people.

I'd grab a few boxes of Fig Newtons to last til my gallon plants of White Triana and Sals mature.

Everyone knows you cant take it with you, so if I cant take my figs I am not going. lol Rex

Rex, you nailed it!!

Pete
Take a fig plant that has the biggest leaves in case it is needed in the heaven by any chance...

Welp, being that they actually found more Mayan calendar that goes way past 2012, I'm thinking the world ain't gonna be ending, so I'm not even gonna guesstimate.  http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/tech/science/story/2012-05-08/maya-apocalypse-calendar-2012/54879760/1

Either way, I'm stoked that my new Togiharu hammered Damascus Santoku gets here before that day, just in case some idiot religious zealot decides to make the end happen.  I want to make sure I have the joy of some awesome slicing action before then.  Too bad all the figs left on my tree won't ripen, I could start by slicing them.  Maybe it'll be some zombie slicing instead.

Who knew that Negronne wouldn't ripen a second crop down here?

"Togiharu hammered Damascus Santoku" --- is that anything like Beatrix Kiddo's Hattori Hanzo??  : )

Gee, isn't anyone taking a laptop to stay in contact with the Figs4Fun Forum?

i keep hearing this..

"In heaven there is no beer.
That's why we drink it here (Right Here!)
When we're gone from here,
all our friends will be drinking all our beer!"

hope there are figs in heaven..

there are about a thousand refrances of figs in the bible, and they have been called the fruit of the Gods in many cultures. i think figs will be there. and wine too. Jesus said "I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom comes" religion has it messed up. if you drink you goto hell. uh didnt Jesus drink wine? guess its why i have a hard time finding a good church. its hard to find one not full of hipocrits.

"... i have a hard time finding a good church. its hard to find one not full of hipocrits."

I used to think that way too, Dave.  But then my pastor once told us in a bible study  "...if you were to find the perfect church...the one where nobody talked behind people's backs, the one where there were no hypocrites, the one where everybody loved each other and followed the Lord's teachings perfectly...what makes you think they would want YOU?"

I thought about that for awhile.  Imperfection, vices and frailties do indeed seem to be the human condition.   Even among people who attend church.

So we are content with our church and our fellow believers.  Imperfect as they all are...     :-)

Humbug!
