17 SWCs & 3 buried pots

Plus my 9 in-ground trees makes for a nice sampler plate in a few years.  I went all out on the SWCs this year after hearing great feedback.  I chose the covered version, as I liked the thought of the slow release fertilizer/nutrients not being washed out.  The 3 buried pots pictured are Dotatto, Negronne, and Gino Black.  I'm anxious to see how everything does this year.  97% of what you see are from cuttings started last year.  2013 was a huge disappointment in growth, so I veered from using standard pots and switched to Pro-Mix BX with earthworm castings and Osmocote slow release fert.
I also started 11 unk-Carini from scrap cuttings by simply placing in a pot and leaving in full shade.  Between my father and siblings, they'll be happy to have these.
Caging the in-ground trees is a must.  The deer chomp on everything in the yard.

Hey Frank, everything is looking great. We'll have to see how your SWCs do this year! Best of luck.

Nice, Frank! Good luck with them all!

In my larger pots I always have the suckers and shoots that come out at the side of the pots, from the soil. How to deal with this in your Covered SWC?

very nice set up :)

Excellent!  What type of wick is in the SWC?  You used straight Pro-Mix in each?

Wonderful setup. You will not be disappointed with the SIP's.

Thanks everyone.

Danny,

I use pure peat moss for the wicking cup only.  I'm hoping it works out ok.

Way to go Frank!  Looks great!  You're gonna love how well the trees grow using SWPs!  That black plastic cover stimulates more heat.  All of my trees in SWPs came back faster than those not in SWPs.  Keep up the good work!

Thanks, Dennis!  They seem to really like it already.  I had a tree that appeared to be dead, but shortly after transplanting to the SWC, a new stem rose from the base.

The only problem with the plastic is that if a branch comes up from an underground node it will probably die.  You'd lose the chance to get figs from it then air layer it.
