My first ever Battaglia, what a treat I can't wait till next year, to date it's the biggest fig I have grown at 40g. It was the best of the 4, UDG and MBVS tied, PH came in last again. The taste of BG was nice, maybe strawberry jam(ish) with a hint of ripe cantaloupe and something else. The skin alone was very sweet and not tough at all.

Battaglia is a very good choice for a potted plant. Ours are very good this year. Excellent fig.

Plants from cuttings will be available in the spring.

And I was hoping cuttings from plants would be available in the fall.  ;-)

Calvin nice figs, Battaglias are really good, let them get really ripe and eat them immediately, they don't keep at all.

rafaelissimmo,

Good to know. It could have gone another day, but it was very soft, enough so that I knew it wasn't exceedingly early. Because it was the only one, I wanted to taste it before it got any dried fig flavors. I have had a fair amount of figs this year that haven't kept up moisture while getting very ripe, and the quickly go from needing another day to leathery on the sunny side and having flavors of dried fruit. That and I have to work tomorrow and won't be around to fend off any vermin out to steal my only taste for this year.

Here too we have the same issue with the hot sun. Some figlets are emerging now and will happily eat them in winter :)

Nice set of figs Calvin, hope you get a plate full every day!

Battaglia is amazing, congrats.

Calvin, Can you post a picture of the leaf pattern? I have a fig that looks identical to that and I love the taste. The fig looks and tastes similar to JH Adriatic but the leaf pattern is different.

Hey Calvin, is the Unk Dark Greek the one that Navid has?

Nice! I have had my eye on that one. Sounds like it has great potential here.

Gary, yes it is. It is a 2yr old tree, and this year was it's first harvest, it put on about 30 figs. Although it is dropping about half of them, I am still very happy with it so far and I'm sure it will only improve.

Art, here you go. It's a fairly small tree, but I let it ripen one fig for a taste. I has mostly 3 lobe leaves, some singles, and the latest ones are mostly 5 lobes. The last 2 pictures I am showing it next to a small JH I started this spring which incidentally sits beside it. I'm sure the leaves of the JH will likely change form some next year.

Thanks Calvin, You may have solved my mystery.

Happy to help.
