1st LSU Gold Main Crop Fig of the Season

Here is my first LSU Gold fig of the season.  It was kind of dissappointing.  The fig had almost no flavor.  The tree is still small.  I can't seem to get it to grow strong or look healthy.  Hopefully this one starts to show improvement or it's going on the list of trees to dig up and replace.

That's disappointing, Joe--I hope it improves with age. I've really been looking forward to mine getting to fruiting size (this is its first season in the ground), and your experience makes me a little worried.

Ken,

See how it does for you. Maybe you'll have better luck. My tree never looked very healthy.

I got mine from Cathy Shepherd (texascockatoos) and it's very healthy, so hopefully that will make a difference. When I planted it this spring, it was only as tall as the bottom leaf.)

Mine has grown very slowly.  I got it in 2009!  Yours might turn out to have better fruit.  Best luck with it Ken.

The fruit looks kinda dry.  I see you are in Phoenix, so maybe watering is an issue? My LSU Gold tree is very strong and produces good figs. I hope you can rectify the situation as it is a very good variety in my opinion.
