1st yr VdB green?

so I've been reading VdB is dark from start. but mine is green. any idea why?

pete

Yes it start dark around the eye only and later in August get really dark.
If the leaves matches Violette from other people(see my pics),then you should not worry.

My first year VdB from EL has a few small figlets. The area around the eye is purple already. I can take pics tomorrow if you want.

Hi Bullet,
here in this link you can see my violet de bordeaux in first post they are the last 2 pictures, i had bought in past from edible landscaping.

I did notice last season the figs color this way - then turn green as they get to size only to turn dark as they start to ripen.
This is what happened in my yard.

Also my Negretta acted the same last season.

Here is another picture i found with VdB with some turning the color back to greenish. The smaller ones just starting and the larger ones you see even more turned green.
This is what happened last season along with my Negretta fig plant.

Some are green, and some are purple, even on a 20 year old tree. May be a function of how much sun they get and/or how shaded they are by the leaves. They all turn purple eventually.

i was told VdB i have is paradise nursery strain. but it looks like the pictures. it's dark around the eye and green on the other places. have about 15-20 figs growing on it. only about handful are size of dime now. hope i get some this year.

thanks for the pictures.

Pete, Those look a lot more like Brunswick leaves, except for the pointy-ness.

Pete:That is a healthy Violette growing strong, because it likes the place it is planted,so yes you got a violette the original.

only been doing fig thing for last 8 months or so.. so i'm not sure what i have. however, the source of the plant is very reliable, and was told this is paradise nursery strain of negronne/VdB.

i guess the main thing is if the fruit tastes good or not once it ripes. i can't wait.

now, only if my paradiso and kathleen's black do something to make me happy..
