2 Negronnes?

Both of these were bought as Negronne . The first pix is of a Zaino's Negronne. The second was locally bought , grower Hollybrook. Are they the same ? Leaves look different to me as well. Thanks for any opinions .

I have one and it shares the same leaf design as the first one.

I concur with Jarrett.

I think the leaf shape looks within the acceptable range for both of them. However, to me the figs on the first one are a bit curious though. From what I can see there is no reddish blush to them, and it doesn't look like the eye is red either(of course the eye is a bit obscure).  The immature figs on the tree in the second pic are textbook IMO. VdB,/Negronne, Petit Negri all look like this.

Calvin that was my question about the eyes not being red whatsoever on the 1st. In fact they are  a light yellow. Sorry the pix on the 1st should be a lot better .

I have a tree that was sold to me as negronne and that has leaves and figs that are very similar to the second photo.

Pattee, please post follow up pics when the  figs ripen.

Sure will . The 1st one I just bought this spring . The 2nd I've had for 2yrs and the fruit had been what I thought was typical Negronne and although only had few last year , were very good.

both look fine to me. i have a VdB/Negronne (it came as VdB/Negronne.. i call it VdB, but it's original source is Paradise Nursery and they called it "Elegant Violette Black"). i see both type of leaves on mine. typically i see lot of second type of leaves early in the season, but usually by now most of the leave will look like the first pix.

Thanks everyone , will post more pix as they ripen.

I have 2 from same retail source. Difference in time of purchase is 2 months apart. Fig interior looks the same. One Negronne looks rounder & bigger in size than the other. Both taste & interior are identical.

I'm with Calvin on this one.

Bump, what was the verdict here Pattee? Do you have any pictures of the first fig ripened, or both to compare and contrast?

Hi Calvin . No update at all - the Negronne in question actually aborted all it's figs . I'll have to wait until next season unfortunately and hope for better results. The only one that got a little larger , still hard ( but still fell off) was actually amber inside. Unripe figs of my true Negronne were darker and reddish at the same stage.
Thanks for the inquiry . I really wanted to figure out what it was - but hopefully next season. I don't have any thoughts of it being a Negronne at this point though.

Your first picture Zaino's Negronne is most likely not .
The eye should be reddish /pink even when the figs are much smaller than those pictured  -    not white as shown.

Absolutely Martin ! That was my first clue. Thanks. Will be interesting next season to get a ripe fig from it and if it will be a keeper - or not !!
