2 year old compost question

I have the opportunity to get delivered for free some beautiful 2 year old black compost this is from our cities leave pick up program, all the leaves that the city picks up gets turned and any branches screened out  it is just beautiful compost

My question is could this be used by it self for container grown figs or is it too heavy? if so what should I mix into it to lighten it up?

I use Fox Farm for my rarest trees but I just can't spend that kind of money for all of my trees , I know they all should all get the royal treatment but allot of the common ones I end up giving to friends.

Thanks Dave

Should be awesome stuff. I would still add 30% Perlite.

I wanted to ask the same question ...should be getting a load of leaf compost within the next few days from my town...

I have been using this recipe for 1-3 gallon containers: 2 parts screened leaf mold, 2 parts pine fines, 1 part NAPA, 1 part pro-mix, lime, fert. The NAPA floor dry is new to me this year and I like it so far.

Thanks Jon I put in my order for the mulch hopefully I will have it the beginning of next week

I wish i could get free mulch .

i make a little .

Well I woke up this morning to a nice surprise my compost arrived the pile doesn't look big but it is one large scoop from a Backhoe's bucket and It might be hard to tell by the picture this compost is jet black just beautiful

Now I just have to pick up some Perlite anything anyone would add or is that it? Thanks Dave

I was in a HD yesterday and checked the bagged compost they are selling (organic, from the leaves and grass). It says on the packaging "not for pots or containers".
Why so?

What do y'all have like a compost fairy that delivers at night?

That's a sweet deal. I'd love to have that available.

IMHO I would add non colored cypress mulch to help aerate it. Just don't get the chunks it should be grated and stringy looking not chunky.

Green Fig

The probably saying that because it can't be used alone as it breaks down more it will turn into cement if you don't add something to it, like Perlite or small bark chips

I have a friend that works for the city  he was in and out in a blink of an eye they don't take kindly to home deliveries here, if you want to pick it up from the city your welcome to as long as you fill garbage pails in the back of your car and you are not allowed to go with a pickup truck  "figure that one out"
