2015 July -- Melanzana Breba

Certainly a yummy breba - few. Main crop is reliable and bountiful. No
winter protection for over 5 yrs.

Now that's a 'well-done' fig!  It certainly looks rich.

Looks very ripe and sugar concentrated

Thank you posting about this fig. I have it in my collection but there isn't much about it posted. My tree is small. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

I also have this variety and bought it from Bill.  I just assumed its not a popular fig because so few posts exist.

Whiterk I'll take pictures of mine tomorrow.

Sal if you bought it from Bill it may only ripen breba. There appear to be two distinct Melanzanas... the one from Bill has yet to ripen a main crop without pollination for me.

Up-date Melanzana Breba July 9th 2015

Looks very nice and delicious!
I had a Melanzana breba that looks like that as well.  It had a very sweet caramel jammy taste.
One thing I don't understand is why mine was so small.  When I spoke to Adriano and others about this variety they said the brebas are huge?

Variety came from Adriano via Prof.Bostock. Breba has never been huge. Definitely a
keeper and I never protect it for winter here. The main crop taste very good.

Sounds like a nice fig.
Thanks for clarifying Paul.
