Thanks Jerry!  Yes the heat is helping.  And as LSU Purple matures the fruit quality is also improving.

Hey Joe, another good video thanks for sharing it.

A couple of OT questions for you.

What kind of camera do you have? The def is great and the focus transition is really smooth.

How did you train your dogs to not kill your chickens and turkeys?

Hi Calvin!  I use a Sony HDR-CX330 recorder.  I like it a lot.  Before that I was using cell phones and this video recorder is much better quality.

With dogs it seems like its just in them to kill the birds or not.  My german shepherd mix killed one of the turkeys.  Now everytime he sees one he shakes all over and tries to sneak off and lunge at them.  He can't be around the turkeys and chickens.  The pitbull mix we have doesnt pay them any attention.  She sleeps and they sit next to her or walk on top of her and she ignores them.  She's great around babies too.

Do you have any chickens or turkeys?

Hi Joe,

Are your trees irrigated and how often do you water?

Hi Sas.  Yes the trees are on drip irrigation.  They get irrigated every second day.  I wait until after the sun goes down to turn on the irrigation.  In the spring I would run the irrigation for 2 hours at a time.  But now in the summer heat I'm running it for 3.5 hours at a time.

Thanks Frozen Joe for another good video. Can't wait to see joes jersey update.

Btw those Turkeys are getting big fast!

Thanks for the answers Joe.

I don't presently have chickens. I had some about 5 years ago and will probably gets some again next spring. Our dog we have now I thinks is probably too old to bother a chicken, he would probably be scared of them anyhow. He's doing good, but he's 16 and we can really see him aging fast the last couple of years. We won't get a new puppy as long as he's still with us; he's not much of an Alpha. Point being, at some point I'll have a new dog to train to not kill my chickens.

How interesting. I saw your previous videos on youtube last week. I'm glad to hear they start tasting better as they age. I just got mine in the mail today so I'm hoping for some good figs in a few years. Now I just need to get LSU Gold and Tiger and I'll be set. I'm a LSU Tiger graduate so it's a matter of pride. :)

Calvin I hope that old dog sticks around a few more years for you.  Probably the younger you can introduce a dog to chickens the better.  My German Shepherd mix is almost 10.  Maybe he would have been better with the birds if he had been exposed as a puppy.

Its cool that you want to start an LSU fig collection. LSU Purple is a healthy, productive tree.  The flavor is unique compared to other figs.  If you like the taste you'll have plenty of figs from it.
