2nd Fig growers meeting

Hello there,

Last year we enjoyed a get together in central New Jersey and some of you have asked me if will have a 2nd annual fig meeting. Here's the previous post on last year's meeting http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=4492490&highlight=meeting
This year we can do something a little different. Al from south Jersey suggested we meet at a park with a pavilion in South Jersey which is a good idea.
A couple asked if they can have it at my place, I would love to have everyone over. I can have up to 20+ people over.
We can swap fig cuttings and other plant materials.
I can give a presentation on different topics.
Mid April usually is a good time of year, however last year was colder than usual.

I'll be doing two presentations on a Saturday in April, so I can let you know soon what date will be good.
If you are interested in joining, where would you prefer to go?

Both souind good but I vote for your place.

Thanks Bass all the feedback I received from last years meeting was positive and I wanted to continue, hoping to get more this year.  The park idea covers alot of issues we ran into the first meeting. Parking is not a problem, food can be brought and cooked in the park the families can have a picnic style lunch. There are pavilions to protect us from the weather should it turn nasty.  We also wanted to have a chinese auction style scion swap everyone that brings scion would be eligible for the auction. We were looking at several parks in the south / central jersey area allowing other members an opportuninty to attend that could not make last years event and meet fellow members and exchange information.

Bring your rooted cuttings, scion, trees, set up trades, swaps, or sales. Most of all come out for our lectures and free information. We wanted to do two lectures one on rooting techniques and one on spring pruning. Let us know what you want to see, hear, or do and we will try to make it work. Remember this is the plannig stages so shoot your ideas.

I would love to attend either one you guys decide.

Bass I would love to come.  I prefer having it at your place, and on a Saturday and a hotel is close by.  I live in Charlotte, NC and would have to take a day off from work and fly there, rent a car and drive from Philly.  So, I prefer to make a weekend touring the PA area.  And I would like at least a month's notice so I can get a good rate on air fare and car rental too.  cheers,

Hi Herman,

Would you like to make this south jersey meeting  not as far as Moods?
Al

I only wish I was closer to you guys. Or had a reason for coming that way this summer.

Maybe we'll just have to organize a mid-west swap-meet. Hmm.....

This would be pretty cool. Bass your 50 mins from me. So not bad and northeastnewbie your the same in the other direction so any way we look at it it a good day. Tell me what to cook and will bring it and cook

Celt I will take you up on that let me know when the restaurant opens I want to take the wifey out for being so patient with my obsession.

Haha I will buddy as we get closer to this gathering I will need to know what people would lIke to eat other than figs. Make a nice BBQ it of it or something just growing out ideas

Count me in!

I can carry up to 3 people if anyone in the northland wants to rendezvous with me on the New York State Thruway.

HI all! I posted that I was interested in attending on the GW forum. Someone told me that there is more info on this here than on GW. I am new to this forum, so this is my first post here!
Bass, could you tell me where in NJ you are located so I can get an idea of where I am going? I am in NJ too, exit 74 on the Parkway.
Thanks! Christy

Welcome to F4F, Christy!

Hello Christy,

I'm located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Sorry we didn't finalize the meeting information, we were trying to find if people will be interested in meeting in a park in South Jersey, or doing it at my place which can accommodate up to 20 people.
I say April 30th or May 14th are good dates.

Those are good dates for me I will be doing a presentation on pruning. there will be scion, rooted cuttings, and trees for sale, trade and a chinese auction.  Last years event was a good time. You actually get to put a face to the avatar names on the forum and make friends. Should be a good outing with good people and great information.

I'm glad I don't have anything on those dates. I will keep both clear. I have to say I am excited to learn and observe in person. Hopefully most of my cuttings make it till then and I can bring something too.

Put me down for a maybe.

A 5 hr drive is a hard pill to swallow.

Definitely interested. I had a great time last year, looking forward to it!!!

Thank you for the welcome!

May 14th is a go! April 30th I do not think I can do.

NJ would be closer, however, I could make it an overnight trip to PA and my husband can visit his family. So either would be ok for me. Does anyone know how close Bethlehem is to Pottstown PA? Just curious. THanks! Christy

Christy either location is about 1 hour from pottstown  South Jersey location will be  Ella Harris Park Mullica Hill nj. Pavilion so rain or shine it is a go. BBQ area, Rest Room facilities, and childrens park so bring the kids and family and meet some fig growers.

If it's in mullica hill it's about 1.30 mins from
From the lighthouse tavern on rt9. Take 9 to 30 to 322

I would be interested in attending.  My preference would be your home, as I think it is closer.

I would also love  to come if I can talk my husband
into driving me to the 2nd Fig Growers Meeting .

Thanks for the info! If it is in NJ, it is only 1 1/2 hr from where I am at the Jersey Shore. IF it is in Bethlehem, I figure we can stay with relatives in Pottstown and make a weekend out of it. So either place if good for me!
Christy

I guess I should add to, either location is good for me, some how it works out that I am about an hour from either location.
