3 Ischia Black

On March 3,20012 I received 3 cutting from a friend and forum member, who got them from UCDaves.  I put them in a bag with moss that day. The one started right a way, roots in 3 weeks, then in to a cup, a month later into a 4" pot. It was growing so fast that I put it in to 3 gallons pot right a way. The other two are about 2 months behind.

On Aug. 1 is when I took the first pic. The big one had 8 figs on, 1 for every leave . The others had 3 or 4 figs on, at that time, but as time went on they to got figs at every leave. Yes I did pick all the figs of.

Now I am hoping that the fig trees make it through the winter.

Congratulations on your success!  Not so sure I'd have clipped all the figs!!  You don't mention the variety of fig this is.

Suzi

Very nice work! That's pretty incredible especially since I've read this is a fickle variety to root. What potting medium did you use?

Those tomatoes look nice too, did they make it into a salad or a pot of sauce?

@Suzi, I would have dilly-dallied about over cutting all those off too. :-)

Very nice! Good work snapping off the figs. Put that energy into growing stronger. I might even consider doing it next year as well since IB is a slow grower, maybe leaving 1 or 2 to taste.

Suzi Ischia Black.

Strive I used 1 part Miracle-Gro potting mix 1/2 part pine bark [fine] 1/4 parts perlite and  about 1 cut of line. The cuttings were 10" to 14"long. I started the whole cutting. The tomatoes made GREAT bacon sandwich. They are Belgium Giant, they will get to be 3 or 4 lb. 1 slice per sandwich.

nypd I though the same thing. When water to nite, the new grow is red. Is this common for IB?

Though familiar with it, I am trying to grow it now.  But I'm not really giving it my all because other figs have been doing well.

A lot of red/dark/black figs have red tips and veining when first emerging. So I am not surprised to see that.
