This is the number of trees which died in Texas during the 2011 drought.  According to experts at Texas A&M Forest Services.  I included two of my fig trees in that number (just in case they missed them on the satellites images.)

I would not truly trust those numbers either. This is TAMU were talking about here. 

The only error could be in under counting. I was in Bastrop the other day paying homage and you can still smell the char. If anybody wants I have many, many 80+ year old dead cedar trees in my woods with 12" plus trunks that make good construction material.
