35 degrees overnight low

Tonight may dip down to 35. Is this a problem for inground fig trees that haven't leafed yet? Thanks!

Here is going down to 38 and trees are in full bloom. Same question though. Do I need to bring them in somewhere?

I would cover with an old sheet or something that will keep any possible frost off the buds. A light frost will set you back. Better safe than sorry. Definitely if leafed out.

Okay thanks!

DaveL I'm down here in Stamford just curious when you are planning on taking your trees out? Last year I had way too much heat in my winter storage everything leaved out very early by the time I brought them out quite a few of the leaves got damaged by an unexpected frost this year I'm keeping it much cooler in the winter storage and the buds are not showing any swelling yet I'm very happy :-)

Who would ever think the low in SoCal would be the same as Stamford...

Dave, all my trees are currently in an insulated shed supplemented with an oil filled heater on a chill plug (35 on 45 off). Lately, they have been held in the high fourties to mid fifties temperature range. On nice days I been opening the door getting some fresh air in and preventing overheating. Some of my trees are just now beginning to show some bud swelling. I am thinking of starting to move the trees that are waking up out probably this comming Sunday. That Saturday nite temp is still a little chilly to chance it. I have two 6x8 growhouses that I will shuffle into as needed as well as the shed for really cold nights. As you know this time of the year it is very tricky. You really have to keep a close eye on those overnite temps. Another big issue on my corner of the state is the wind. That cold breeze off the ocean can really set you back. Good luck.

Anyone else nervous that have trees with green tips but NOT leafed out yet? I thought that so long as the buds are dormant, the trees could sustain slightly colder temps overnight without dieback.

Yep. I'm nervous about my in-ground trees.

😩
