35 Degrees Overnight ... Uncovered Trees Safe?

Hi all.  Tonight's low is supposed to be 35 and I just uncovered my two trees yesterday.  Lots of green buds and tips but no leaves yet.  Will 35 degree hurt them at all?  I think I may switch the lamps on just in case.  Thanks for your help!

Okay great. No leaves yet but will turn lamps on just to be safe. Thanks.

Here's what I've read, although I haven't tested (not sure how you would):

If it's very clear and there is very little wind, it's possible for certain surfaces to actually be lower than the ambient air temperature, due to radiation.

So for example you can have frost on the ground even if it's not quite 32 degrees.  Probably needs to be 33 or 34.

If it's 35 degrees the chances are very slim.  And certainly the lamps should compensate for any heat loss due to radiation.  If it's 31 and windy, the lamps would probably be futile.

Also, even freezing temperature shouldn't hurt buds that haven't yet opened.  Although you can kiss any figlets or leaves goodbye if it does freeze.

Good luck.

Yes I know I uncovered a new on ground tree and had its baby leaves freeze off when it wasn't predicted to be that cold. It's supposed to be another 3 dog nite (35') on Friday. Argh crazy weather. Hope your Figs do ok figgi!

Okay.  I switch the lamps on.  Should be okay.  Thanks for your help!

Had a night last month where it dropped to 34 with no protection. The figs had already started leafing out. Most had burned leaves. The mount etna figs had no issue. All plants have bounced back just fine:)

They'll be ok at 35 degrees. No need to worry.

Navid.

Great thanks.  Here's a few pictures:

Lol. It looks cool but it's for supplemental warmth. Radiant IR heat works by heating the object, not the surrounding air like blowers do. As a result, the heat isn't affected by wind like it would be with forced hot air.
