3rd Crop...? what to do.

Seems like majority of my little fig trees have decided to throw YET another new crop.
Is this considered 3rd crop or delayed 2nd crop?
Most of these same trees had a crop on them earlier and now a new ones...
How bad is this?
Is this normal?

I SHOULD MENTION THAT, THE TEMPS HERE IN LA ARE HIGH 90'S AND PLANNING TO GO ON FOR A QUITE A WHILE...

yes its normal... but you have to take them off

If you think they will ripen leave them. Otherwise it is a waste of energy if frost kills them... good luck

He is in Los Angeles California, what is frost  65 degrees....LOL    It's Sunny all year around.....I think some varieties have breba, main and then a late crop.   Others Main and late crop.

Figs in Brazil, produce year around, with a break for dormancy period at the 65 degree cold, right Armando. They drop their leaves for about one month, the pruning is done following that period and production goes on again.  they harvest the tiny ones you are showing for green jams or crystalized candy as indeed they suck the energy of the plant.

Reminding that 65 is freezing temperature and everyone grab their fur coats, jackets, etc...

Aaron,
That is a false alarm :)
Your figs are in a paradise and let them be as they wish. You will notice that some will skip our 'winter' altogether since there is none!
My last crop last year was in late December and it was pretty good.

If your youngsters have too many figlets, leave 2-3 only for a higher chance to taste a better fig.

it was 106 in Glendale, will be higher tomorrow

Actual temp or what it feels like? Wow Aaron, I can not imagine it getting that hot. I thought better about 96, I will stop complaining. Whew!

Actual, I am sure, it felt like hell :(
And yesterday, and a day before. I think tomorrow it will get better, I hope 105

LOL, 105

Even up north here I've sometimes picked ripe figs in late November and your days will soon be getting longer than up here (maybe already are).  I think they should have a fairly decent chance of ripening so you could leave them.  If anything, thin some out so energy goes to fewer figs.

I don't really know why there is a delay but these should just be part of the main crop, all coming from current year's growth.  Perhaps, tree resources get depleted from earlier figs and once many of those have been picked it then starts forming more main crop figs.  Just a theory....

My figs are definitely slowing down now, seems earlier than last year.

Sorry the Temp was 102, tomorrow they are predicting to be 106. sorry about the typo.

Harvey, your theory seems to be making sense. Although I didn't get many main crop figs from new growers (just 1 here 1 there or so...) but it had stopped. Then, the plants had this new Burst of growth and here come figlets with new leaves!

am very anxious to see what will happen next. I won't lose plants because I didn't illuminate the figs, right?  ;/

I have never seen a frost im my life... :')
Do you know that I was called nuts to grow a fig in my country, they told me it cannot survive the summer heat and it needs snow to survive... well I am proving them wrong everyday :P

i would leave it on if the tree is close to its final size, it should be tasty too.

And here where it snows people say they can't handle snow and that will kill them.

No one knows a thing!

I know ONE thing!  that I know NOTHING! ...but I like it.
And my Figs are growing like there is no tomorrow.
Yup, I'm bragging!

it's now 9:00 PM and the thermostat is saying 88F outside. Crazy!

Update: Here's some pics of the developing extended crop (I was calling it 3rd crop, still looks like it) of my Armenian variety from Beverly Hills.

Looks good

Aaron
3 fig crops you lucky dude!
I say leave them and see how they how they turn out.

3rd crop, what to do. ....  post on F4F to make everyone else jealous.  :)

Awesome, I side with the let them grow crowd.

Well, it's New Years eve and ...since it hasn't snowed here in Los Angeles, I'll sing..."Let it Grow, Let it Grow, Let it Grow..." LOL

I'll gladly send you my snow and -10 Aaron. :)

Hahaha... noon thanks you.
If I wanted anything colder I'd settle in Manhattan.
Although earlier today was 35F in the shade... ugh, too cold for me.!!

Every place had it's pros and cons, the real bad cold like this usually don't last a real long time.

Wills said it was over 60 first thing in the morning at his place a couple days ago, and it was -3 here.  Oh well, that's how it goes.
