You sound like a school teacher on steroids. Who the... are you to teach people what to do with their money?
James, take as long as you need with my order...

Common sense and common decency sure seem to be in short supply in this topic.

I wonder if those who rant and yell fraud and say ponzi scheme and other vitriol would do so if they were face to face? I suspect not. It is a shame that they think that is the thing to do in a forum.

And others who seem to think that James owes them answers to their questions or must listen to how "they" think James should run his business. I'm imagining someone going into these people's offices, or classroom, or courtroom, or surgery suite, or greenhouse, or gold course or wherever and saying; "you don't know me, but I have some questions and you need to answer my questions." How would they react? Say don't let the door hit you where the good lord split you! Or ignore these arrogant people like James is ignoring these people. If James ignored people who were asking for refunds, that would be a different story. But he is not.

Anonymity does not absolve any of us from being decent humans. For what it is worth, I commend those who are keeping cool heads and refuse to be pulled into the cesspool that others keep trying to introduce.

Its been said so many times in this thread, but bears repeating; you don't have to do business with James if you don't agree with what he is doing, if you don't want to wait for your delivery ask for a refund, or be patient and wait for your trees to be delivered.

I'm amazed at the lack of administrative reining in on this forum. Now there isn't just 1 but 2 threads going with negative posts being duplicated. At this point, even though it may be playing into the hands of the ones doing it, I'm considering leaving the forum too. I think the lack of control here is disgraceful.

@arachyd - Please don't. Ignore the negative nellies and just revel in the good people and good information in the forum. Let the BS roll off like water off a duck's back.

arachyd....Would you please think about Leaving. There are a lot of fine Forum members here. There is so much information to educate yourself about our precious fruit. These forum bandits gets pleasure out of making people mad! I've had to bite my lip several times, I call them "Keyboard Bullies"......Most of them could not bust a grape.......We cannot afford to lose good Forum members like you.Just please think about not leaving, hopefully this will be stopped!

Frank from Bama

I'm not thinking of leaving because of how people talk. It's because nothing can be done about it here. While I agree this is a forum filled with great people it really made me take notice when I looked for a "report this post" button and discovered there isn't one. I've never seen that in a forum. People can literally trash a person trying to do good and we can't even seem to get the admin's attention about it. One of the good reasons for the option to report bad posts is to protect the forum administrators from liability in the event the one being trashed publicly decides to sue for their tarnished reputation. Another reason is, obviously, to protect people from being publicly attacked. Censorship has gotten to be viewed as a bad thing but it doesn't mean silencing it means limiting what is said, with reasonable guidelines as to what is acceptable, in it's best interpretation of the word.

@Lebmark I wasn't expecting any comments from you, I really don't care. I only want that James answers those questions and many others valid questions posted here from other members.

@SAS Is good that you are giving James permission to take as long as he needs from your order, but the thing is that James is taking everybody's money, not just yours.

I know that many of you have mentioned that people who are not happy should take the refund, but there are many people out there who doesn't know about this forum and they have purchased fig trees from James and they don't know what is really happening.
In my previous comment, I just wanted to express my point of view about all this mess, if by any chance someone reads this thread and is thinking about purchasing fig trees from James, I want them to have all the possible views and they will decide if they will buy from James or not.
Many of you think that James is a hero, some of you are staying neutral and I think that he's a fraud. So far he hasn't delivered anything and he has failing to his promises over and over... Everyone has the right to think what they want, and I respect that. I even respect the people who think James is a hero. My post here is nothing personal against any of you, is directly to James.
I will not post anything else until Spring, when James start to ship those fig tres.

HAs anyone ordered and recieved fig cuttings from James (Greenfin)? I ordered some cuttings to be shipped around February 1, 2017 and wondered what the actual delivery time might be. I have tried to PM James (3x) but have not yet recieved a response and am getting worried. I can wait a month but don't want to be on a five-year plan.
ANy thoughts or past experiences? I have only ordered cuttings.

TA Kermode

I asked this question a while ago but nobody answered, leading me to believe none of the cuttings has been sent out.

Just keep emailing him. I'm sure soooooner or later he will respond. You can also request a refund.

I placed my order for cuttings on July 2016. Really excited that it's now February 2017 which I expect to receive cuttings from James soon. I contact him via email, no respond. I hope he will send it this month.

James told me he's buried under (100s or 1000s, I forget) emails regarding the project.  It takes him about 3-4 days to respond to an email.

I want to make sure James has time to work on the cuttings..so I will stop emailing and hope to see some cuttings soon.
I only have two basic fig plants and am too excited to loose another season without some new varieties.

Mamma2,

I would not recommend planning your growing season around James at this point. I have a feeling it may not just be if they go out, but where you are on his list.

I have received great cuttings from James, but that was before the "expansion".

You may want to add a wish list like many other people have and maybe someone can help you out. Many people trim their plants after dormancy, so more will be available here @April/May.

I have multiple orders with James and have accumulated several types that I have on order. While I have confidence in James' ability and integrity, if things are put off again I will cancel everything and make an updated order I can live with the reality of my expectations. It is becoming too much money, plus additional shipping charges from multiple orders (my own fault being a fig addict) to have tied up for an extra year or so.

The continuation to take orders without suitable information on the web site is discerning to me. If everyone's orders have to be ready to be fulfilled while taking additional orders, this is a catch-22 exercise in futility. Pictures and updates are cool but it is more than time for relevant delivery times and more accuracy for expectations. An idea of which orders would be filled according to order dates and a start date to processing orders.

Busy vs Obligations. While good things come to those who wait, good guys finish last also comes to mind.

I hope all the best for James. He was very good to me and provided some good information to me when I was starting with figs. Like I said, throw out what you are looking for and maybe I can help when my plants break dormancy.

Mike

MIke,
I really appreciate your sincere input! I am still deciding what to do about my order but am taking your suggestion and throwing out a wish list.🙂

WIsh: RDB, Stella, Adriatic JH, Hollier, Panache, Smith, LSU Gold.

In reality, I am open to any fig that is decent. I am a science teacher and hope to also get my "kids" in to figs as well. So for future reference, are cuttings more successful after dormancy has broken or while totally dormant?

I see the site has November 2017 as start shipping dates for both cuttings and plants.

I'm out. Minus one $500 order. Money will have been tied up for a year and a half at that point, if the date holds. If I get a friggin plant in November it is a total pain to keep them up through the winter.

Maybe when this "proves out" I'll try again.

Any one have Martineca Rimada and Col de Dame Gegantina? lol

Unfortunately, you have the liability backwards. A forum owner is not liable for what is said on their website. If they choose to start removing posts, then they open themselves up for liability.

Mike, shouldn't this post been a private message to James?

Thanks Waynea,

I was wondering about Harvey. I cannot access Facebook or Emails from work. I will ASAP after the refund. The only way to get by the wife/live to see my figs grow up. lol.

 Mike

It is my understanding that this is an open conversation.

James has received an appropriate and polite PM.

Mike

Here are some pics of the rooted trees being grown in my greenhouses this winter.  There are around 4,000 figs in rooting cups in these pics, and another 1,000 are about to be added.

I get many questions about when orders will be ready and whether I will ever be able to grow enough of the rare trees to fill everyone's orders.  The short answer is this: YES you will all get your orders soon!  Many of the $7 tree orders will start shipping out as soon as it gets warm enough, and even orders waiting on the very slowest growing varieties should be ready by the end of this spring (which is still 4 months away).  I will email you when your order is ready so that we can discuss shipping details and any possible substitutions you may want to make.

The variety I get asked about more than any other is Black Madeira, which was the #1 most ordered tree, so I'll use it as an example to demonstrate.  My potted Black Madeiras started waking up a couple of weeks ago, and my in-ground ones just started waking up a couple of days ago.  My current Black Madeira inventory is as follows:  5 in-ground in greenhouses, 5 in 7gal pots, 10 in 3gal pots, 18 well-rooted young trees that need up-potted, and 11 more that are rooting in humidity bins and are looking good.  Combined, that's 38 trees with a good shot at up to 49 very shortly (let's conservatively estimate 45).  That total is far short of what is needed to satisfy all of the Black Madeira orders to date, but that is about to change drastically in the next few months.

Since the growing season for these Black Madeiras has already begun, and since I should get 30+ cuttings per potted plant and 50-100 cuttings per in-ground tree over the next 4 months, I'm on pace to have enough Black Madeira wood to provide around 1,500 cuttings by the last day of spring.  I won't put all of that wood toward cuttings, since some of it will be air-layered off along the way to help create more trees as quickly as possible, but the point is clear:  very soon we're going to cross a threshold and have more than enough material to fill all orders for trees and cuttings.  That's the power of exponential growth.

NEW HIRE ANNOUNCEMENT

Things are starting to proceed very fast here, and in the interest of doing my best to make sure that this endeavor succeeds, I have hired a professional horticulturist to work on-site for 5-10 hrs/wk.  He's very smart and creative, has a lot of experience managing pro greenhouses and fairly large hydroponics systems (~150 containers), has collected and grown orchids as a side hobby, and currently works for the Kansas Department of Agriculture, so I think he's got a lot to contribute.
