Building a collection can get expensive, and rooting cuttings can be stressful and frustrating, so I'd like to make a special offer to members: I have enough greenhouse space to grow thousands of fig trees over the next 6 months, and I will grow you well-rooted trees of any variety you want for $7 each.
These $7 trees will be around 6-12" tall and will be shipped bare-root. Shipping charge is $15 per box, up to 5 trees per box, so the overall shipping rates will look like this:
# of trees Shipping
1-5 $15
6-10 $30
11-15 $45
16-20 $60
21-25 $75
etc..
PayPal's programming doesn't allow me to add more than 5 gradations of shipping charge, so it defaults to $75 for everything over 25 trees. So if you're wanting to order more than 25 trees, please do it with multiple orders and place a max of 25 trees in each order. For example, if you want to order 40 trees, place one order for 25 trees and another order for 15 trees.
So what's the catch? Well, if there's a 'catch', it's that you can't get the trees right away, because I'll have to grow them out for you. You'll receive your trees in the spring or summer, depending on how many I need to propagate. I anticipate that most orders will be shipped around July 1st, though some of the smaller/simpler orders will probably go out earlier. If any of the trees you order aren’t ready by July, perhaps because of slow growth or excessive demand, I’ll ship the ones that are ready and give you the choice to either get a refund on the others or to wait and receive them whenever they're ready.
Why don't I grow them out first and then sell them? Because if I did, I wouldn't sell them for $7, I'd sell them for a price closer to their market value (i.e. for much more $$). This is a special offer to sell you trees for little more than it costs me to produce them, but only if you pre-pay to cover those expenses. Doing things this way allows me to know how many of each variety I need to grow, and it gives me the money in advance to cover the costs of growing them.
So what's in it for me? A large part of the cost of growing the fig trees will be heating my 4 greenhouses, where I also grow lots of fish and bananas. Heating is really expensive, so I usually only heat half my space, and I only heat it a minimal amount. But I would crank up the heat for your fig trees, and that would have the side benefits of making my fish and bananas happier and helping them to grow faster. So in a nutshell, in exchange for hooking you up with cheap trees, you’d help to pay my heating bill and allow me to grow bigger fish and bananas. Everybody wins :)
So the offer is out there: If you're willing to wait until this upcoming spring/summer to receive your trees, then I will grow you whatever you want for $7 per tree.
Orders will be filled on a first-come first-served basis. Getting your order in early puts you at the front of the line and maximizes the odds that you'll receive your trees early in the season.
Many of these varieties are new additions this winter, and while they all came from reputable sources, it should be noted that I haven't personally fruited them yet.
