8 feet in one year

Last year was extra warm in San Diego and my established fig trees really took off.  Desert King and Black Mission NL in particular grew about 8 feet in one year.  Let's just say I enjoyed a lot of figs last year!  I decided to cut the fig trees back to a few nodes.  See picture with pruners for reference.  My Violette de Bordeaux in contrast is my slowest grower.

To turn this into a conversation, what is the greatest one year growth you have experienced with your figs and what variety is most vigorous?  Thanks for sharing!

I had a lsu orourke do the same 7 to a foot in one year. Lsu purple did the same just outward instead of up. My slowest to date is VDB FOR SURE.

My most vigorous has to be Gino's Black! :)

Col.de.dame.grise.

This thing is uncontrollable. My cuttings rooted in February of '15, went dormant in December '15, and one tree in particular grew like a tomato. I kept forcing them to branch but I think altogether, that single aforementioned tree more than likely put out ~20 feet of growth.

I still have the deadwood from the original cutting sticking out the the trunk, which has outgrown the width of the original cutting by at least threefold. I'll take a photo of it tomorrow in the daylight.

My VdB and Hollier aren't playing any games either but nothing was like CdDG.

Hardy Chicago arrived via mail in early December and was shorter than my cable remote control pot included.  Maybe 6 inches total.  Just about 3 CT winter months later and it is over 3ft, bushy with numerous figs.  I wish my cuttings were doing as well.

My desert king grew at least 8 ft from cutting in one year. Probably would have gone higher but I cut it off before it could grow more. Ended up giving my DK trees away due to Breba only crop or whatever it is that it does.

Mine was a Kadota. Started as a cutting. Over six feet, figs set but did not ripen, hopefully this year.

Greatest growth was an excel, it grew from 4 inches to 5 feet tall in 60 days.

Fastest growing with lots of figs is Figo preto. 6 months old now, 5ft tall from a unrooted 3 inch cutting, with 20 figs on it, and one fig looks like he wants to start ripening soon.

Here's my fastest growing cutting. 14 feet in one season. It's a Col de Dame Noir cutting from Harvey.

HooRay that is really impressive!  Especially considering the size of the pot!

It's a 25 gallon size pot. Also a 3 gallon air layer.

This is incredible growth.  I am curious, is this planted in ground or potted?  If potted, what kind soil mixture and fertilizer do you apply?

Also, what did you do to encourage so much side branches so low down the on the trunk?

Thanks.

It was planted late May, the soil is heavily amended with compost in that spot so it grew very fast. The fruit suffered as a result : prone to splitting, larger eye, thick rind, watery. Hopefully it slows down in the next couple of years. I use seaweed extract on cuttings before they are planted and that might have helped it to branch, mostly I think it was caused by rampant growth though.
