8/13/ 2013 UPDATE:

I did not realize how shady this side of my tree was. The BM is in a shade most of the time, it gets very little light.  I can hardly wait for it to go dormant, so I can dig out the biggest hole around and put it to a sunnier spot.  Its leaves are the most beautiful ones...
Regardless, it seems to have passed the most crucial danger of surviving.

I received one cutting and shared half with a fig friend, with my half I made 2 little grafts onto roots of my tree - one in the rooting chamber, so I took another piece of it and grafted to a root still in the ground... It is my hope that it will became reality, but from now, enjoy the photos.

6/27/2013 UPDATE:

it seems to be doing well. it is still in the hole and protected  from our cold winds... had to share!

*many of my grafts did not make it, so I am carefully calling it a sucess.

That is an amazing job on the graft! I am terrified of doing that.
I'm thinking fresh egg potato salad...YUM!
Before we moved down here my neighbor supplied me with free range eggs from her chickens and ducks. I really really miss fresh. Think of me when you have the next one :)

As for the fresh eggs, I love them with fig jam. I have my own chickens as well.

Thank you for the pictures, Grasa. It looks like you have used the omega grafting tool this time.

it's a Zenport tool that I got recently- trying to use it, but still difficult, the areas of contact is within that 1/2", and my fingers are fat, so I figure to use a paper clip to secure it and left undisturbed. Fat roots in the ground are very juicy, they carry a lot for the big tree, so, it may work... shall see with  time here. the problem we have is the weather, already raining and cold again, so I will go put more mulch in there...hope it generates the heat it needs to bond.

well, I got plenty of fig trees. I wish I could have chickens. I live in the city. We are allowed chickens but I know my neighbors would frown on me if i got a few. I use to raise quail when i was a boy.

No joke! I wanted ostrich and Emus 20yrs ago but at that time I had no land. Just a couple of fig trees.

We are allowed 8 . I live in the city also. 10 min drive to downtown. they are good for the fig tree, eating bugs and scratching adding air to those big roots and preventing weeds from growing in that area.  I planted comfrey and they ate all of them to the roots, so I have to get more and protect the plants better.

All of my cuttings rooted but later died.  The one piece I grafted is growing very well so this seems like a great method for this variety.

cool grafts . we are not alowed chickens in this small town , most small towns will at least let you have three or 4 hens .

my grandfather on mother's side was bit eccentric. he used to grow exotic birds and banana trees.. in korea. peacock was one of his most priced bird. i still remember at certain time of the day, they will fan the tail feathers. beautiful birds.
