$86 for 5 cuttings????

There 10 people bidding on eBay for a Col de dame Blanc for $86! WoW!
What is so special about that fig tree?

Haven't you seen any of Bass' auctions lately, $86 is peanuts compared to him.

It's a nice fig, but it's not worth that much.

However, there are much worse deals out there.  There have been auctions that get as high as $400.  $86 for one of those biggies, with five sticks is actually not bad at all.  Of course, it's over a hundred, now.

It's also being offered by a person with a reputation.

CdDB is available from UCD. Noir, and Gris... now we are talking big money.

I don't know that I will ever want a specific variety bad enough to pay that kind of money. If I did I would probably kill it just because that's just how it goes :).

So I guess that there is no way for me to have any of these kinds ( Gris, Noir, Blanc)there are just too expensive for me , I can't afford them. Lol
I guess the people that pay such money are dealers themselves, I just want to take my mind away from my problems

Final price $162.00

Never say never. There are a lot of good folks here who are more than willing to share. I know I have received varieties that seemed outside of my budget. If not this year, you may acquire it later.

Here is an auction where they went higher (not mine) http://www.ebay.com/itm/190815163019  I've paid very high prices for some things but don't spend money on much else so I don't consider it a big deal.  And I've sold some things for some high prices.  I think many people in the U.S. spend way too much on car payments but that's their choice.  All 3 of my cars are over 10 years old.

You can buy probably buy Cdd Blanc for $20 in CA from Richard Watts.

That is true

Richard is out of cuttings of CDD Blanc but you can reserve a plant for fall shipping.  I bid on that auction but dropped out at $60.

George ,

Get to know people in the fig community , help out others when you can and you will be amazed at how they will help you back .
I received a ccd air layer from a friend for free . And I have given away many 7 foot trees for free and tons of cuttings and air layers . In fact I am trying to reduce the number of plants I have but I always end up with more due to the generosity of others . Once you get to know people , you will rarely have to pay for plants let alone hundreds of dollars for a couple sticks .

John

Really, people here are willing to share cuttings for either the price of shipping or your promise to "Pay it Forward."

Small trees in containers don't give many cuttings, and that makes them harder to get, but many here have larger trees, and at pruning time are overwhelmed with cuttings.  Many of our members here make a nice living on Ebay, but many of us can't afford those prices that the bidding generates.

Put an order in to UCD next year, and include varieties you want.

I just received this year's order and I got one, I repeat, ONE Black Madeira!  Fingers crossed it will root for me, but there's always next year!!

Oh I got no complaints, someone was very generous and offered me cuttings for postage already:)

I have bought several figs cuttings and small plants on e-bay and have not been disappointed yet by sellers or the health, quality and shipping of the cuttings-plants.  This year, after trimming my trees ( which I am still cleaning up) I offered free cuttings to anyone passing by my area.  There were no takers, however I got requests for cuttings  to be mailed to several states which I filled.  Still a mess left so I decided to make my first sale on e-bay of cuttings and the buyer will be happy with the results.  Hey if you are bidding and the billfold starts objecting, let common sense take over.  No fig is worth what some of the bidders are willing to pay, BUT if an auctions starts at 99c and has a buy now offer that is reasonable and biddders get into a frenzy, it is out of the sellers hands except his checking account balance.  :-).  By the way, after the Easter holiday, I will still have free cuttings if you PM me.FREE FIG CUTTINGS OFFER ENDED 4/1/2013. Too many orders to fill at this time.  Thanks. C.H.
