Pictures below are Beall (lighter, top and right) and Flanders (darker, bottom and left).

Both are ripening in my area, Beall finally came today from a potted tree, 2nd year, 1" trunk caliper, 4' tall.  It only put on one fruit this year, the other tree I have put on nothing (planted it in a neighbor's yard this year).  Cutting source:  UC Davis.

Note that Beall has a drop of honey in the eye.  The honey started the day it started splotching and the neck went limp.  The drip was liquid in the morning and gummy by afternoon.  Had I waited one more day, it probably would have been firm.  The honey is extremely sweet.

Fig was actually pretty awesome for a breba, tasted like sweet candy of Japanese Mirin.  There was almost no richness and no figgy flavor.  Nice little seed crunch.  I give it an 8 on sweetness, 1 on figgyness, 0 on richness.  The candy/honey/seed crunch addition really made Beall worthwhile.

The Flanders (on bottom or left) was ... just mediocre, similar to the other two I picked.  Beall (on top or right) was great.

Thanks for the report. I started both of those from cuttings this spring. Hope both turn out over time to be good figs. The write-ups were promising.

I could eat Beall breba crop all year long.  If main crop is better, this one is a definite keeper.   Don't normally like light-fleshed figs, they seem bland.  This one tasted like ... candied tequila or something.

Flanders... I hope the main crop is at least as good as Beall's breba.  If not, I'm giving it the next two years to get better, then it's getting rogue-planted somewhere in the neighborhood.

Are your Celeste ripe yet?!

BTW - I have a 2nd-year Vernino that's been a slow grower.  It's about 18" tall and pinky-thick entering its 3rd year and I'm about to up-pot from 1gal->3gal and pinch to get it branching for some possible spare wood.  Give me a holler at the end of the year.

I'm really looking forward to trying many varieties of figs and to see which do well here. Some will be keepers, some given away. 

The only Celestes I have were just rooted this year, so fruits are a long way off.

Thanks for the possible Vernino. Just wrote myself a note. If it turns out that you have some spare wood, that would be great. Sorry to hear it's a slow grower, but it might like sunny California. :)
