Good day, here is one you don't hear too much about.  It's called Big AL.  About 2 years ago, I requested some cutting from Jon.  Most beat me to all the hard to get cuttings so I took a chance on one called Big AL.  Big Al is listed on Jon's varieties page but his tree has not fruited yet and there is no picture.  Well mine has!  Here are a few pictures of my Big AL.  I was able to get 2 of the 4 cuttings to root and yesterday after a hard rain, these figs ripen!  What a surprise!  These figs are very sweet.  They have a long tangy rich flavor kinda like Black Celeste but sweeter.  Here is a picture taken with one of 3 Aubique Petite figs which was totally awesome also!  Enjoy!

The force is so strong!!!!!!!  Dark figs are so amazing in flavor and taste. My 3 Stella figs have lots of figs this year compared to last year.  And the same for my Strawberry fig.  Those 2 figs have a great taste but they come second to Smith.  

Gina, "petite" means small or dwarf in French, so the tree will be small but not necessarily for the figs.  And the same goes for Petite Negra.  My in ground PN produces large figs but a big taste.  Big Al will be one of the the figs to get one day.  Mark my word.

My petite negri has had one too many rainy days, in what has been a wet July/August for us here in Atlanta.  Many went kerblooie today/yesterday, so I went and harvested everything that split before the ants discovers the joys of figs.  Of course, the critters weren't really letting us have much fun anyways.  Petite Negri has such a long period of dominant black color before it's fully ripe!  So figs are being ate before I get there, and plenty more knocked off.  The figs harvested today ranged between 35 and 55 water soaked grams.  They were, by and large sweet, if watery, with the 55g fig being the best (but also the worse split).  So now I wait for the next batch of figs, hopefully with little rain.

How well does Big Al stand up to the rain Dennis? Looks like a fine fig. Thanks for the pictures.

Charles, it's been raining here about every other day and no splitting.  It also has a tight eye.  My tree is in a self watering pot so if too much comes in, it will automatically come out the side.

This year it has been raining here everyday and my best performers have been my VdBs and my LSU Scotts Blacks. I am always on the lookout for a tasty dark fig, rain tolerant with a small eye. I'll be adding this fellow to my wish list. Thanks Dennis.

I picked two unripe but big looking figs, and they turned out to be a bit above 35g.  So, my guess, the main range of these fig trees planted here is about 35-45g.  So not the size of those 80g+ monstrosities early in June.

Even though they were unripe, they were delicious in a way the early unripe main season figs were not.  Tart and sweet.  I think it loses its tartness if you can really get it ripe, and you get intense sweetness.

Oh, since the title was in part Aubique Petite, I thought this was a good place to put in my observations of my own Petite Negri since they're supposed to be the same.  Apologies if inappropriate.

I think Jon had this available on his list.  I can't locate it at the moment.  Big Al is a good one to get.

I first introduced (Italian) 'Big Al' from a Cook College Rutgers univ, NJ (horticulture) person.
I was told that the word 'big' stood for Big Alex (a person,  and not the actual fig  size).
