Brown Turkey UC Davis

These are pix of Brown Turkey from UC Davis cutting. It is the first fig to ripen this season (about 2 weeks earlier than the first fig last season). It has a taste that is better than any Brown Turkey I have ever eaten. Not awesome, but definitely better than any eaten previously. Taste was much closer to Black Mission, but lacks the "jamminess" and sweetness of the Black Mission.

Nice looking fig, how old is the tree it came from.

2 years? Still small in a 5g pot.

it looks nothing like a brown turkey.
The mislabed cuttings you recieved in the past from uc davis, (the ones in the logo) are much different.

Curious, say you do not have a lot of space can a fig tree stay in a five gallon pot successfully during its life with pruning the roots and limbs every so often or even a smaller pot? My trees take up a lot of space in garage during the cold months , but i would like several more if i can grow them in a small pot. I just cannot put any in the ground . You gentleman have a lot tree's and are very informative.
Thanks in advance.

I would say a minimum of 5 gallon is a must if you're looking to keep it for a long time and get figs off of it. Anything smaller would require annual root prunning. For best results probably a 10 or 15 gallon is needed.
I would think all of us have trees in pots, those in CA don't need to move the pots anywhere, us in the cold states it's a requirement.

Yes I agree it is a very good overall fig.
It is spreading too, wich makes it good for container.
This is Dfic17,and mine fruited the first year.
Now in the second I have a dozen fruits allready the size of a small plum.
I found it just like Jon say:Worth to have.
Here is a picture of mine:

Thanks Bass, i know grandma when alive in chicago had a large tree that they could have supplied a market almost with those figs they would get, they buried every year  it would look like a fresh buried body.It must be nice not to have to lug the tree's around in the warm climates.

Bass,

The figs in the logo were not from UC Davis, but a local scion exchange. They were labelled as BT, but clearly something else. This one resembles all of the BT I've seen, except it does have a little more purple in the skin, and better flavor than any other. However, it still isn't a Black Mission.

Good, finally Jon got a Brown Turkey that he likes. Almost a miracle!
