So, we have Georgia Gardener on our local public TV station.  Ray Givan was invited on the show twice, once to cover fig propagation, another to cover his favorite figs.  I thought you may want to see them.

By the way, a point of interest.

In that first video, at the end of the segment, Ray Givan says you can beat RKN using fire ants.

He says you can put a pot with an RKN-infected plant on top of a fire ant mound, and they will harvest and eat the nematodes.  He expresses that "this has worked in the four or five times I've tried it".

Interesting food for thought.

I know Ray is a member on forum here and i have been to his site but never seen him or heard his voice and thanks to you now i have.
A few comments i have please.
I admire the way Ray propagates or and explains it . Just a simple ole fashion not hard to do method that most times works. I watched both video's and how he explains different types , how to tell they are ripe and such and for a person just starting out with figs its all there to learn by watching and listening.
Concerning the dark and white figs Ray hit it on the nail head by saying the white fig although sweet is a Little lighter in taste now thats how i taste them as well and maybe not everyone else as all our palates tend to be different.
But it seems RAYS might be in a way similar to mine when he mentioned he has 75 different types and 1 of his all time favorites the Hardy Chicago at the 9:20 mark of the 2nd video, seems he likes it because of the rich taste it bring to his taste buds. He describes it as small to medium and says the color is purple then lets the man he is talking taste it and he bites into it and his very first impression is WOW is that rich.
Bada Bing they both hit a homerun with meb as i have been saying this about that type since i have been a member and it also is one of my all time favorites even though i do not have nearly as many types of figs, but its nice to know they describe that particular fig the way i taste it !
Sure there are others who like different figs everyone is different but this is first time ive heard a respected fig enthusisasts that must have tasted many other different figs  mention its one of his all time favorites .
Oh that put a big smile on my face as at least Him and i we have something in common albiet it very small in the whole scheme of things.

I have a copy of the tasting video saved on my Tivo, and could rip it and post on the web - it is a higher quality than the video posted.  The video posted is the "officially" supplied version.

I am a bit upset, even though I have Georgia Gardener setup as a show that MUST be recorded, apparently it did not record the Propagation video!  So I only have one of the two videos on my Tivo.

It is very sad, after heading to Ray's website, I see his crop of trees was almost totally wiped out in the early 2000's when we had a crazy winter/spring transition, then lost the rest went bye-bye during his divorce last year.  Must be pretty devastating to lose everything like that.

I sure don't want RKN but I'm also very glad we don't have fire ants in KY. Not yet anyway. Hope it stays that way. For me, fire ants was one of my top ten reasons for leaving FL (right up there with sand spurs). I'll gladly use horse poo and other organics as a preventative instead.  

I've heard of staying married for the kids but staying married for the figs would be a new concept! Is Ray's website still active? I've tried to find it again on the web and it seems to be down. Maybe its me, I'm trying to find all of my favorites again since I went to Linux OS.

Yes Martin, in spite of PCs being  a good as sliced-bread;
once in a while they do act weird/nasty.  As for me, my
not-so-old one just crashed-up on me. Lazy me, not
doing frequent back-ups as recommended, have lost
some precious (family) pics and fig files. Still have the hard drive
to (some day) go and pay for so called data-recovery.

As for Ray's web site... when I find his booklet, it will be
the 3-4 th time hand writing the URL update. Maintaining a web site
is not free. I guess Ray is always looking for a cheaper
way. That does break links; I bet Jon's fig DB has a lot
of such "broken" links.

BTW, Ray is my fig HERO! He is the blame for me being
a fig-nut. This happened after me stumbling on his web
site, long ago way before any FF existed...

Find someone who can set up your failed hard drive as a "slave" to your new hard drive. Maybe whoever installed your new hard drive can do this for you? As long as it wasn't a physical crash (vs. software crash), you should able to retrieve all data from the disk yourself. I've done this several times with success.

The fig they say is Kadota is red (bad video cut). I have not ever seen a red Kadota.

If you have a working computer, you can easily recover the data yourself, unless the hard drive is damaged.  Just determine what type the hard drive is (IDE, SATA, SATA2, etc.) and go to a site like Newegg.com where you can pick up an external hard drive case and a USB cable for around $30.  Pop the hard drive in the case, plug it into your working computer, open Windows Explorer, find the drive and copy your files.  If the hard drive is damaged, that's a whole differnt haircut.
