Good news: not a Celeste.  L

Haha, this is true. Gotta be Honest, 'm pretty pleased w the Celeste that I have. Im pulling about 10 figs a day off of it and they are mighty tasty! Any guess on what I'm working w here?

wait, wait, wait! when did Celeste become a bad word?! lol

No Celeste complaints from me! I must of got a couple "good" ones!

Celeste is good!  But we've already ID'd two of your figs as Celeste, I'd feel bad if this was another one ;)

Celestes are almost to die for this season. Really extraordinary.

Any takers to Venture a Guess on this? I was under the impression it was a EBT but the figs are very dark. Any Help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

I need t look again on something other than my phone to be more exact.

I was thinking something along that line myself. The tree was Labeled "Special 101". If you get a better look or need some more pics please let me know.

Thanks,
Mike

I don't think it's a Sal.  That green tip near the top of the fruit is baffling me, and I didn't notice that the fruit is so uniformly reddish-purple.

Is that cracking around the eye?

There are a a figs I have in my collection that have that leaf shape, fruit size and shape, interior, but not that exterior color.

The cracking near the eye reminds me of what Hardy Chicago looks like, but HC is usually more reddish and the two middle lobes usually aren't that large.  Good example of leaf and fruit:  http://media.photobucket.com/image/recent/Mountainman0826/HardyChicagoLeaf.jpg

If Im going by leaf and fruit, I'm going to say LSU Scott's Black (which is a Celeste hybrid), see the fruit in the first few posts and leaf shape in post #32:  http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=5330984

Not a definitive ID, but my best first guess is LSU Scott's Black.

Maybe Herman or one of the other guys could chime in.

Got any pictures of other leaves?  Are there any 3-lobe leaves?  Any additional fruit pics?

Thanks for the help so far. Heres some pics of the leaves and unripe fruit.  I didnt find any 3 lobed leafs. Also I've noticed the eye of the fruit is red very early on, well before any ripening. Let me know what you think and thanks again for the help.

I've never seen my LSU Scott's Black fruit, so I don't know if it has pink eye on the young fruit.  My HC does have a pink eye.  The leaves in pic 3 and 4 of your last post are typical shape for HC.  The only thing I have beef with is the skin color.  It's just not typical of my HC or any other HC I've seen.  It's not far off, and maybe that fruit is just a bad picture, but ... that's the only thing that doesn't match for me.

Sorry I can't help more.  I definitely think this is some Mt Etna variety, though, based on leaf shape, fruit shape/size/exterior/interior.

Thank you for all of the help this far. When these next couple ripen up I'll try to get some better quality photos on this post. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.

I had a few more pics of some riper fruit. For now I guess its leaning towards a Hardy Chicago/Mt Etna region fig? Any Moer help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Mike, resembles an unknown (from Sicily) that I have that is either the same as Hardy Chicago or very closely related. I had a chance to taste both this summer.

  Pete

I pulled about 5 figs off the tree today. They were Swollen and drooped a good amount. Very flavorful. Almost with a berry type flavor.

Any sharpness/acidity to the berry flavor?  How rich (brown sugary) are they?

I agree with Pete that this looks like what people typically refer to as a "Mt Etna" fig (the mountain in Sicily) - those typically have five lobe leaves with a few frills, fruit no larger than an old silver dollar, dark skin, dark interior, just like what you picture above.

I'm not willing to commit to it as a "final answer", but this still reminds me of Hardy Chicago, especially if you look at that full-grown leaf hanging near the base of the trunk - the 2nd set of lobes on HC are often smaller and jutting out at a hard angle like that.

The fruit size, shape, color matches a lot of "Mt Etna" types.
