Martin's Unknown

Just wondering if other had success with Martin's Unknown fig this year.  Here is mine.  I got 2 ripe figs this year and they were pretty good.  I got more figs on the tree but not sure they will ripen.  Here in the Carolina's the weather is starting to drop 10 degrees in the day and night.  But Sept and Oct usually is warm with 80 degree weather.  The rains come in October and will start to cool things off then Fall is right behind.  This tree has more fruit on it but I think what prompted this fig to ripen is the early hot weather we had in March and April.

I got 2 Black Maderias and one young Malta Black all with lots of figs.  Since the weather is changing, I've decided to place all these figs in my greenhouse along with Martin's Unknown because I think they love lots of heat.  Time will tell.  thanks for watching.

Does Martins unknown have a closed or open eye when fully riped?Thank's and God Bless.

it is an open eye and large fig.  Mine taste pretty good.

Ciao Martin, your Italian unknown from Emilia Romagna was a very tasty fig, at 2 yesturday, will download pics to you via email. I know its not same as the " martin unknown" you are speaking of but it was not bad at all.  Ciao

Martin,

Now I do remember when (as a joke!), you stuck an Oleander
flower bud in a fig's eye that drove some people nuts.
Was this the specimen?

An open eye, though not desirable, is not [nessarily] a fig-killer.

I also thought that 'the-other' reason you did not like
it; was because it did not ripen all the fruit to frost [time]
- possibly a 'natural' trend for [it being] 'everbearing' kind?

From the MANY pics you posted (most have now vanished?!),
it always looked as a good fig to me (at least above average).

Dennis please please excuse if i go off topic for a minute with Maggie.

Maggie you had a ripe fig from my Italian Unknown???
I know i sent you this when i chopped up tree.
But that darn blasted tree reason i chopped it up gave me 1 ripe fig in 4 full seasons and now you get a ripe fig !!!
Oh thats something else please let me know what happens with the rest of figs on tree and yes that 1 i recall cause i was so happy when it swelled i new it would ripen was decent. But i was mad at tree it always dropped the whole crop.

Gorgi...
yes im laughing i remember the oleander flower bud thing i did !
Your very right main reason i got rid of fig tree an elder one at that in 30 gallon container was it failed to ripen most of the crop before weather turned here.
Although eye was big it was fine otherwise here cause not much rain late in season just cold nights and cool cloudy days late in season.
When warm season the fig was yes above average and i would have kept otherwise.
My pictures i still have but i delete them from photobucket cause of space concern and they get deleted here but i have on disk.

Maggie i also have many pictures of the Italian Unknown gosh im still thinking about the pain i went thru with that tree root pruning it and getting stuck with one of its branches in my neck in the process that hurt and bloodied my shirt i never forget about that time.

Dennis here if you have not seen these cause i delete them,   for you and Gorgi.
This is the parent of the fig plant that Gorgi has up on Ebay called Martins Unknown.

Ciao Martin, yes, I did , I got two to eat , they are worth wait.  It did as you say did drop many fruits, I only have maybe 4 or 5 left and they look like they will do well. I think the heat helped this particular tree, Also, been using alot of fish tank water as fertiliser, maybe this helped, I don't want to buy fertiliser any more and my god, the plants and tree love the fishy water!  I will keep you posted.

Jon, you have mail! thanks!
