Northeast fig meeting

Hi, Folks!

I just found your forum last night, and see that I missed out on a great party/fig meeting.  But am I correct in reading that there's another meeting coming up on June 22?  Where is this one?  It almost looks like Bass is giving it, also?  And there's another one in Sept. on Staten Island?

I'm not an expert on navigating on forums, so I hope I'm entering at the right place.

Am I supposed to start a new "string" to ask if it's safe to prune away the branches above the new growth that just started sprouting at the base of  two of my in-ground figs?  I'm sooo happy to see the sprouts, because I was sure they had been killed-off, despite covering them up.  (I'm on the S. shore of Long Island, zone 6B or 7.)  Another fig has just started sprouting at the tip of a branch, so I don't want to prune prematurely.  But if the other plants' branches are, in fact, dead, I don't want decaying tissues to migrate down and extinguish  what life is left.  Or, should I worry about dieback if I cut too close to the new growth?  (I know how to do the scratch test.)

If I'm not supposed to ask this stuff on this string, please forgive my faux pas and tell me how to start the new one?

From the pictures from your recent party, you guys seem to have lush young plants.  Should I assume that you kept them indoors all winter?  Greenhouses?  Better zones?.

You certainly have/know of more varieties than I ever knew existed.  (Can I possibly find room for more?)

Where in Brooklyn is Mark?  (I'm born and raised in East New York.) I love Vito's giraffe!

I hope you don't mind the intrusion, folks!

Vicky

Hi Vicky, welcome to the forum. It would be best to start a new thread, but you won't catch any flak for posting here. You are more likely to get responses in your own thread. On the main forum page just above the thread list, on the right, you will see the new topic link. That's all you have to do!

You'll be able to find many answers to your questions in the posts from others (many have had dieback issues this year) and you'll find there is no "right way" to do any of this fig stuff.

Thanks, Kelby!   With your guidance, I found the "new topic" link.  I'll take some pictures before I post.

But I just realized that most of the posts I read on this thread were from 2013!  So, the June 22nd event is this year's version of what Bass hosted last year?  How long should one be a part of this forum before taking part in these gatherings?  (It seems awkward for a complete stranger to show up at someone's home, figs or no figs.)

Just wondering!

Bass, If the 22nd is the decided date I know myself and Fignewbee would be very happy to attend.

Yes Bass, I think that you should continue with your NE fig meetings.
All meetings that I attended (including the very first one) had been great.
However this year, I may not be able to attend as I'll be away most of late June.
Have fun everybody ...

I won't be able to make it this year. June is already booked up....

FYI  We have 2 threads going on the same topic they are

" 5th annual Northeast fig gathering " and  " Northeast fig meeting "

Should we pick one so we are all on the same page ?
