Hi, Folks!
I just found your forum last night, and see that I missed out on a great party/fig meeting. But am I correct in reading that there's another meeting coming up on June 22? Where is this one? It almost looks like Bass is giving it, also? And there's another one in Sept. on Staten Island?
I'm not an expert on navigating on forums, so I hope I'm entering at the right place.
Am I supposed to start a new "string" to ask if it's safe to prune away the branches above the new growth that just started sprouting at the base of two of my in-ground figs? I'm sooo happy to see the sprouts, because I was sure they had been killed-off, despite covering them up. (I'm on the S. shore of Long Island, zone 6B or 7.) Another fig has just started sprouting at the tip of a branch, so I don't want to prune prematurely. But if the other plants' branches are, in fact, dead, I don't want decaying tissues to migrate down and extinguish what life is left. Or, should I worry about dieback if I cut too close to the new growth? (I know how to do the scratch test.)
If I'm not supposed to ask this stuff on this string, please forgive my faux pas and tell me how to start the new one?
From the pictures from your recent party, you guys seem to have lush young plants. Should I assume that you kept them indoors all winter? Greenhouses? Better zones?.
You certainly have/know of more varieties than I ever knew existed. (Can I possibly find room for more?)
Where in Brooklyn is Mark? (I'm born and raised in East New York.) I love Vito's giraffe!
I hope you don't mind the intrusion, folks!
