Unknown Bronx Green cold hardy zone 6

Hi,
Remember that I transplanted a large fig tree a few months ago http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/Cold-hardy-fig-cuttings-for-postage-6328707
the owner has another fig tree in ground next to the one I took. It's also a mature & large tree about 12 ft tall.
I visited her yesterday and collect some figs, and will get some cutting this winter.
The fig is large, almost 3 inch long. the opening is tight. However, it ripes first from the opening. as you can see that I samples 3 figs. all of them has soft bottom, but the top portion is not quite ripe yet. The taste is sweet at bottom but kind of bland. Maybe because it's not fully ripe yet. I'll try leave the fig on table for a day or two to check if it will taste better.

Anyone want to suggest the variety?

Jimmy...

Nice tree, and nice figs.

I personally think that you should let those figs stay on the tree for a few more days, and go easy with the water, if needed at all.  Try to give the tree only very little water, even if the leaves slightly flag.  I think just by hanging a few more days, the flavor of those figs will greatly improve.  Figs need to be fully ripened on the tree.

Let them hang, and not too much water at the roots.  Hope this helps.

Hi Frank,

the tree is in ground. It's a huge tree, the owner does not bother to water it at all. There are several figs on the tree looks ripe, but the bottom is either rot or eaten by bird.

This looks a little like the Barese white/ Columbro fig.

I sampled more figs last night. the bottom is fully ripe, some even rot, but the top is still dry and firm. Overall, the taste is really bland. Maybe its good for making jam.

i notice that about larger figs, specially long ones like White Greek. near the eye is ripe, but near the stem is not as ripe. if i wait for the top the ripe, the bottom turn sour. might need good heat to ripen the whole thing around same time.

Paul,
I checked http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/Barese-White-6020631
the size, shape, opening and interior color of figs are very different. also different leaf pattern.
