Aeilee,

You nearly had me to trade with, but I am seeing that you seem not to follow through very well. And no I am not interested in seeds, figs are why I am here. I would like to help a young guy out, but your methods are questionable and I am inclined to say no at this point.

I had also told him in a PM that I would be glad to send him some cuttings this Winter

That deal is off the table for good.......Now I really wondering if he is 13 or so years old.

I'm done for now.

Aielee,

It seems people have sent you cuttings that you have not acknowledged, didn't follow up on when suposedly you didn't receive them and so on. You apparently didn't follow your end of the deal in several instances. People frown on that sort of behavior, I know I do. That kind of track record will not generate interest in trades, it will do the opposite. If you want to deal with people on this list, try following though on your past promises first. If you promsed cuttings or seeds then deliver them to the people you promised them to. That is the first step you need to take to rectify this situation. If that happens, then myself and I believe others will be more inclined to trade with you. Until then, you will likely not get any positve responses from this forum. You are young and should know that your word is gold, and if it is not it is garbage.

follow thru. if mistake was made, make sure it's cleared up. very important to not make promises one can not keep.

it seems something was promised, but there was no conclusion or feed back as to why that promise was not kept.

not too clear what's going on, but...

I never heard back from Aielee either, same scenario as Bass.

Aielee, if the package did not make it then that is important information. People have been very generous to you but you should not take that for granted.

This is the long and short of it:

Aeilee came onto both forums (F4F & Gardenweb) less than 6 months ago begging for cuttings incessantly (multiple posts and threads), which is generally frowned upon by many members.  At the time, Aeilee apparently had no trees, but wanted trees that would fruit the first year (which are few and far between), and a couple of people were ripped off by Aeilee as well - or had bad dealings in the process of sending cuttings and receiving nothing in return.  Now Aeilee has a lot of rare figs that apparently ARE and/or HAVE fruited already, and now wants to trade, and I fear again, people are going to get ripped off this time also.

(I haven't even tasted fruit on 10% of my trees and I've been growing for 4 years!!  Must be some magical trees Aeilee has!)

From Aeilee's start of membership, any time someone complains about or talks of a bad dealing with Aeilee, Aeilee deletes the thread from existence, thereby making it look as if nothing is wrong and erasing the negative comments that could help to save a forum member that may trade some woes.  This alone is sketchy, underhanded behaviour at best.

I gotta say, I've got Cecil's back on this one.  My BS meter was pegged from the getgo and I made that very clear back then, I reiterate it now.  The activity I am seeing from this member is obnoxious and shady regardless whether Aielee is a 13-year-old kid (or whatever was previously stated) or a 60-year-old adult.  I don't really see a place for it in this community.

I saw the post from Aielee earlier that basically lit Cecil up, we all know Cecil runs a little "hot" sometimes - he's a passionate guy, I respect that, I'm the same way - as soon as he read it and responded, Aeilee deleted it, making it look like Cecil was attacking or instigating.

Very screwed up situation.

Community, beware.

Aeilee,

If I can remember correctly from you most recent thread, The one you deleted you spoke as if you had or have some Lebanese variants you'd like to trade. This is correct?
You also listed in detail about these variants such as taste and quality etc etc.. This too is correct?

And if I can remember when you first joined the forums you were seeking fig trees or cuttings and you had nothing to offer but seeds. Isn't this correct?

My question is do you really have figs to offer? Did you just get these figs? As cuttings? If so, does the law of Physics rest in your garden? How can one person come from not having anything ( fig wise ) to posting a thread seeking to make a trade and speak with confidence in such a way as you did?

I am trying to comprehend this but having trouble doing so.

Are you really a 13 year old kid? Your writing and grammar suggests someone much older and little more educated than of a person of 13 years of age.

Come out clean or leave and please don't look back. This is a great community and we would like to keep it this way.

Along with Jason, I too have Cecils back on this one!

reading past thread and what's going on now, this clearly indicate there is something strange going on with aeilee. i agree with rafed. jason, cecil, and others in the other thread. credit is very important part in every aspect of life. aeilee is losing his credit very fast, if not lost it totally.

if aeilee wishes to further participate in this forum, he should explain himself.

One more thing Aeilee,

You don't owe many an explanation, not to me or Cecil or many of us.

The only people you should explain to are the ones who have willingly, whole hearted and trustfully sent you something you were looking for. Those are the ones you should explain to. Not to me. But it seems you are avoiding them and that's not a good thing.

I did get your PMs and emails that you sent me today about cuttings. Also, received your emails few months ago requesting cuttings as I told you then, I would be able to send them at the end of the year. I will send them ONLY if you pay the cost of shipping and handling. Otherwise, I can not be any help to you.

This is part of the reason I never trust anyone who makes their first post(s) begs, pleads or requests for cuttings.  It rarely ever ends well.  I wish people wouldn't ask for donations in a community where they are a virtual stranger.  It's too often bad news and the people that end up getting screwed are often people I really admire, the kind of people that make this place really special.

When I saw how desperate for fig cuttings he was, I felt that he really has the passion to grow figs and reminded me of myself when I started.
He offered me seeds in return and in fall he will send me one variety of figs. Although I have the same seeds and similar varieties.  I sent about 4 varieties, all I needed in return is "Thank you" I got them. That would have been enough.

Bass,

I did not want to bring this up but I will now.

Few weeks ago I sent out some rooted and potted fig trees that I had extra to some of the new and old members of the forum. All of them thanked me except one. I though it was not delivered, checked the delivery conformation and it showed that it was delivered and when I contacted that specific member, I did no get any response.

Even that he got a free tree and did pay nothing for the shipping, he could not at least say, Thank you.

I've held off from commenting until now. I have no intention though of making any stabs whether deserved or not.

I do however appreciate your sentiments Bass.

It would be kind of a shame if this person really were just and over-eager 13 year old. If this had been explained up front and someone like that simply came out & asked for cuttings, I'd say most of us would have overlooked the inappropriate behavior and offered cuttings anyway. Could still be the case, but who knows at this point?

His silence could still be due to his age & lack of "people skills". But again, can't really say for sure.

I always try to give people the benefit of the doubt. But it is really hard to determine emotions and true intent in this kind of format. This is in fact probably why most of us may be over-cautious or quick to mis-interpret things here (maybe, maybe not -?).

At any rate, if he really is what/who he says he is, then I hope he sticks with gardening & plant propagation.

Having said all this, it doesn't mean that a 13 year old is isn't capable of being devious or dishonest. Without someone here knowing this kid personally, we may never know for sure.

I am a 14 year old kid. Don't believe me? Search me up. I actually have fig plants to trade. Don't believe me? I will show you some pics. But I know I shouldn't approach people so quickly. It is just I am from a country where we grew up on figs, and I want that back. Here in canada I cannot find fig trees in my area. I'm sorry for not returning your emails. Just send me your address and I will gift you something like promised.
Sorry ):

Well... this thread made me feel better! As a newbie I had recently been in touch with Aeilee on the fig chat, and cuttings were all they could talk about. I had asked another member about this sort of behavior since I was new, and that person was very helpful. Jon was very helpful too. I didn't name any names at the time, but after seeing this thread today.. I'm seeing I wasn't the only one. Thanks for speaking up Cecil!

Maybe Aeilee should go elsewhere, have family in the old country send him some cuttings from fig heaven area, I get most of my figs from Family in old country, He is from Lebanon Yes?? Maybe he should just go someplace else as communication is not important to him,  a thank you to the ones that helped him is not important ect, ect, ect. I have been unfortunately delayed in mailing 2 fig tree to very good fig aquaintances, but do to my back problems unable to send them at promised ddates, but, I did send messages to these people and gave explaination. I can only do so much at the moment, but communication is very valuable and Aeilee obviously doesn't care about that whatsoever. Once you are made mud, its pretty hard to come back. I would not trust this person after so many problems are already in existence with him. Young boy or not, still old enough to know what is right or wrong. Ciao.

With Ailee, the main issue has been "failua to communicate" possibly compounded by an international shipping. My understanding was that earlier this year he was an exchange student in Nova Scotia and is now back in
Lebanon. If so, I doubt he had any plants, remembered the taste from home and was overly optimistic in expecting a young tree to bear fruit. If he has cuttings to trade, this time, he must be the one to make the first move. I do not want to be too hasty to speak harshly, we have all been 14 before but for me, it has been so long ago, I don't remember.

Most 14 years olds of any origin would know to say "Thank You for the cuttings" when provided as gift at no charge. Many who sent you cuttings would have been satisfied to hear these few words via email knowing that the cuttings reached where intended. Many did not hear from you and that is not proper.

Aeilee, I don't know if you're still reading, but these forum members have offered you something far more valuable than cuttings: great advice about how to treat others, gained from years of experience. Some have been pretty irritated, but it doesn't reduce the value of their counsel, and if you can learn to follow it, it will be a huge benefit throughout your life. It's not complicated: treat everybody with respect, keep your commitments, and express gratitude. If everybody did it, this would be a much better world.
