A couple Hardy Chicago Breba

The only two breba that didn't drop this year.
Surprising how long the neck is on the breba.
My wife thought they tasted like a plum. They were pretty good for a breba.

Art,I am glad that it had some taste.  I have not tasted a good breba yet this year, they have been water down.

Bugs, I was surprised myself with all the rain we've had the last couple of weeks.

art, that's pair of nicely ripen figs. and good size too. can't wait till next yr. my Hardy Chicago put on some figs, but i knocked them off for next yr.

I'm disappointed. All of my HC breba fell off except there is one on a tree that I'm giving to someone. Maybe next year.

I have 2 main crop figs on my Hardy Chicago. I don't know if they'll ripen in time, but I'm giving them the chance. If it turns out, this will be my first fresh fig ever. Fingers crossed. I've been on the forums for just a couple months. I'm up to 5 plants so far, plus the cuttings I won on eBay from jimmychao. One of those will be ready to pot any day. I think I'm fitting in nicely ;-)

Jeff

My HC had 5-6 breba, but only 1 did not fall off the tree.IMO the breba drop was due to the cold and rainy spring. The single breba fig is starting to turn green-yellow so I'm watching it everyday.

The main crop is growing well.Photo taken during the 1.5hrs of sunshine before the daily rain ;).

This one was hiding from me. I found it when I was watering after dark with my headlamp on.
If I had seen it a couple of days ago I would have picked it then.
It tasted better than it looks.

Congrats Art.  I've never had HC breba, but got lots of main crop.  I've found HC main crop to taste best when they're really ripe, almost overripe.  Did you like that last one better than the other breba?  (Just wondering if the really ripe / almost past ripe situation for HC also applies to the breba).

Mike

Never had a breba on mine ether Mike, I was thinking of wrapping the tree this winter to see if i get any breba's next year. seeing all these guys and gals eating figs already, I have to wait for main crops to come in on a few of my trees. my own fault really, i was just doing a simple cold hardiness test on several types. but i learned alot.

Mike, Yes I think it was a little better than the other two. Looking at the outside of this fig, I thought it was going to be over ripe. It was just right.

Art here in yard it taste like a milder version of main crop when eaten.
From 2009 disk - 1st picture then 2 days later.

Martin, I'm looking forward to eating the main crop. I think I'm going to have a good year with my HC. They are loaded.

Art i truly hope you enjoy them and please if you can when time comes keep the pictures coming when they ripen.
Thanks.

Martin we all know you secretly love lite figs. Ill have to send you some cuttings of my unknown in winter. Its a slower growing kind but produces great figs that have a mild flavor and hint of honey. When I bought it it was soposed to be brown turkey, but found out it wasn't so I called the place I got it from and they said it was pete's honey. Now I'm not sure of that ether as other members posting pics of pete's honey differ from mine. I'm hoping to get a positive id once the fruit ripens.
