A couple ripe Hardy Chicago

Here's my first main crop Hardy Chicago this year. Not the best fig in yard this year, but as usual a good fig.

Looks good Art. Still waiting for my first of the year.

Nice Art,

Thanks for sharing updates on your HC. I have a really large HC here in ground that is full of small to medium green figs. I hope these cool nights and days don't slow them down too much. I was expecting a bountiful harvest this year, but slow going so far. Keep us posted on your progress.

Regards

Mark and Tony,
I think they would have been a little better if it weren't for a very cool week here. The low's were in 40's at night. It's going to warm up next week.

Mine also has lots of small figs that I'm hoping will ripen   :)

I like living vicariously through your photos but I'm hoping for a better experience soon.

Made my mouth water! :D

They look great Art. Hope mine get to ripen this summer.

art, you said it's not your best. which do you have that taste better?i have an HC, but am looking for the best taste.

Susie, Don't get me wrong, HC is for sure a keeper.
This is what I've tasted this year so far. From best to worst.
I will have a lot more before the year is over.

1. JH Adriatic
2. Chiappetta Unk.
3. Florea
4. HC
5. Atreano

I have two other unknowns that I just ate that where better than HC

Art, Your figs look good. I am not to for behind you on my HC. I should be picking two shortly, just letting them ripen a little more. These cold night are not helping.

Hey Bugs, How's the Turkey fig doing? Will you get a ripe fig this year? I've been wanting to see what it looks like.
Yeah these nights have been cold. Looks to be a bit warmer next week.

It is real slow, they do not want to get any bigger. Maybe this warmer weather that is coming may help. When they ripen I will let you know for sure.

Yeah, mine are very slow also.
Check your email.

Got my first HC main crop on 7/23 this year  (tree had been indoors by the glass during the spring).  But it was just one.  Yours look great Art.  Here's hoping for a warm September in the northeast, so we can both get lots of these figs to ripen  (really hoping for the Negronne, RDB, and Aubique Petit to ripen this year, but that cold wet spring made the fruit set late around here).  Nice pics.

Awesome. I have my first ever ripening HC on the plant right now and I'm excited for if to be ready!

Looks good.  Mine here on Long Island are no where close to being ready.  Things seem real slow this year.

Looks good Art. Hope mine does as well.

I'm picking them daily now. Seems like they are getting better every day. These few were excellent.

Is there any crunch

Bugs, No not much crunch. Very jammy.

What are you growing them in?  Was your Spring cold?  Mine are plentiful but dark green and stagnant.

Bob, I have three trees. They are all in containers and yes we had a very cold spring.
They are all on the south side of my house and they are on decorative stone. They are getting a lot of heat. Well as much as they can get here in Pa.

I'm glad you're finally getting some ripe figs. It's about time after all the work you've been putting into them.

i have been enjoying celeste for a couple of weeks.  Just had my first HC.  The sharpness combined with the sweetness was a real eye opener. I am eagerly awaiting more that are progressing nicely.  I am loving my first fig season.  More great things to come.
