I feel like a squirril with these 1 gallon bags of frozen almas taking up the entire freezer part of fridge...Some will be traded to my new financial adviser for fig beer. The rest will be turned into fig leather and preserves. There are a total of 15 bags. The alma sisters do put out!

Wow that's fantastic to have so many to freeze

That is so cool. Something to aspire to.

I love the idea of fig leather. I made lots of blueberry leather this past year. Leathers are so easy to make, store ... and eat.

Really need to ramp up my young figs...

Reminds me of the time I made pear/apple wine.  I had my freezer stuffed with bags of sliced fruit.

LOL @ Frank, Alma sisters

Frank, you call that few....Enjoy.

Frank,

i know you have posted before but please give your thoughts on taste on the sisters.
My dad has asked for a fig tree and the only thing I have a couple exta of, of any size, are Alma and MBVS. I have tasted my MBVS but have not tasted Alma.

Gregg, I really like how Alma figs taste. They are a honey fig and thus very sweet when fully ripe. But you can still appreciate them when not fully ripe unlike some of the dark figs like MBVS. What is even better is their high productivity and long season. They started maturing in July and I am still picking figs from the two trees.

Wills, I've never met an easier fig.

LOL FMD,a few days ago I found out the wife had bags of breba figs in the freezer. She loves figs & I discover the frozen figs as she is still on holidays in Eastern USA. I will be adding more frozen figs to her collection. Large main crop ripening and the wasps & fruit flies are having a field day as I don't have time to pick them.

You need a bigger freezer :)

If i had this many figs, i would make fruit enzymes with them. Good for health.

That is a haul Frank, wonderful!

Martino, what are fruit enzymes?

Frank, I met an elder gentleman a couple of years back that while we were discussing figs told me that he freezes a lot of figs. He had several BT trees which produces loads of figs that were tasty but not quite sweet enough for him. He'd peel them, add a little sugar and mashes them well. He then puts them in little cups with lids and froze them. When he wanted to eat some, he took a cup out of the freezer and put it on the counter to defrost a little and then ate it as ice cream. I haven't tried it yet as I haven't had a good season since he told me this.
