A Few Good Figs......

Newbies may not have seen these pictures of a few good figs......

The DALL'OSSO and RIGATA ROSSA varieties are pretty wild looking.

The fig that immediately grabbed my attention on this website is "A. Sangu". I'm patiently waiting to hear a report on that great looking fig. I would chop down two of my existing fig trees to make room for one of those!!!

Most of those figs pictured are from Italy. Smith is known to be an Itallian fig......however, none of the figs pictured look like a Smith fig. The search for its origin goes on.......

I took note of the  A Sangu also, it looks just like Calvert to me. Maybe a slight resemblance to Adriatic?

I have a bunch of different Adriatic types that I am trialing. Some are unknown Louisiana heirlooms. For some reason A Sangu "looks" like it would be a good one. I saw Gene H. is growing this one up on the east coast......

The Rigatta looks like Panachee and the Rigata Rosa is very interesting with the dark purple colouring, does anyone have any more information ont hem if it is comparable to Panachee, is it later?

@Dan, not sure if you know, but "Sangu" means "Blood" in Sicilian.   Probably named this because of the dark blood red interior.

There are only a few names that I recognize. I wonder how many we have here under different American names. Anyone have Melanzana,Cal? That is one that interests me.

Here is an interesting picture of the inside of that freaky Fetifero fig:

Fetifero translates to 'fetus bearing'.  It looks like the fig bears some fruit or nut inside?

The photographer was sure one lucky person, if he or she had a chance to taste those figs.

Dam it dan now I need 8 new figs I was good for this season. But thanks I think you helped me Id 2 figs in my colection called "red fig and white fig" 9 more to Id great link

For humor only: Looks like we have TYTY Europe.

Celt,
Give it time. You might see them on Ebay. LOL

Lol and I am sure they will be the ones I ordered too.

Good catch Jason Sangu = Blood also Riga(Rigata) = Line
Sal

so rigata rossa is like ... red lined or red striped?

the only reason i figured 'sangu' out is because 'sangue' means blood in portuguese.  and i only know that because of Cesaria Evora (love that song).

Love the names when translated with Google.

Porca=Slutty- Really? I can not see someone naming a fig with this name!

Unfortunately, different uses mean different things, so google is not to be taken on its face.

So we have:
Blood
Albatross
Barrel
Nun
Lieutenant
Knight
Cup
Coma
Abbot
Apples
Pharaoh
Eggplant
Hairy
Walnut
Bacon
Blue Shark

So I'm going to go look for a Hairy Nun, a Blue Shark in a Coma, and Bacon favored Apples! Ha ha

sounds like that could go well with all those "weeds" you're burning ;)

Evidence locker hasn't missed them, yet! ;)

One of the figs that I am seeking to add to my collection is called Marseillaise (AKA Couille du Pape.......or Pope's Testicles).  Baud lists it in his readily available collection. Now why would anyone give that name to a fig??? I hear that it is a good desert quality fig.

I'm partial to dark red centered figs (and fig trees with pink colored leaf stems/buds too) and the description and meaning of A. Sangu fits that fig.

That's why I would just use the ethnic name.

What kind of fig you eating? I'm eating Pope's...Couille du Pape!

Do these look right?

Almost too right!!

I guess the obvious question here is, "Have you ever tasted the Pope's balls?!"
I hope the answer is not, "Totally dessert quality!"

Shame on you all

You guys are hilarios! Makes figs fun!

I want to know how big the Italian populace think the Pope's balls are! I bet they are some big figs!

Fetifero looks like a "double flowered" fig. Here is the Google translation of it's description:

Fetifero fig is a fruit that combines the qualities of a good fig, one of the most curious phenomena of mulismo. [...] The Fiorone del Fico is a bone of Boron largest fruit of black fig, and more than the petiole Datto: it is oblong, Bell, terminated by a long tail and thin, covered with a blackish skin, ribbed longitudinally by an amount of expense recognized, and containing within itself a fleshy body, the same kind of fig, spuntante out of the crown, and that seems a fig about to come out the other. [...]

I think spuntante means "appearing" but I'm not sure, no idea about mulismo.
