Brunswick & BT

Hi Sal,
looks like you will be getting some ripe figs in near future especially from your BMVS, hopefully we can see some pictures when they ripen.
I like the leaf shape on your fig plants.

Sal,

Got them in the front entrance! I love it!

BTW,
The red plant in front of the Brunswick ( pic #3 ), Is that in the Cannes family? Looks really nice.

Thanks Martin and Rafed. That darn Home Depot BT I think infected my patio figs with rust and that is why it is out front and closer for garbage pick up lol

I don't like to spray and waited to see if they would fight it off (dumb me) and now I just sprayed last week and I think to little to late just wait and see is all I can do. Next season I will spray at bud break and again at leaf formation. We are just starting to enjoy a few and I mean a few figs now but am sure it will only get better.
Rafed I think that plant is called a Hawaiian Tea plant or TI plant
I need to put the fig plants where ever there is room as Patio is full. I need to put a sign so those door knockers don't pick them. ;o)

Sal, I just saw this post. Those are really close to ripening. I laugh when I see those at the front door as a while back I was considering planting a fig in my front yard, but was not sure if the wife would approve. I got a little ribbing  from Gene and Rafed telling me to tape plastic flowers to it so Sherri wouldn't notice. Well I did it anyway (without the flowers) and she didn't care -- said she like the foliage. So my LSU Scott's Black is now out front. Sorry to hear of your rust problems(don't forget to spray the poor HDBT too!)

Sal if i did not know any better that MVS i swear i was looking at my hardy chicago fig as it looks just like it in that picture or you got into my photo bucket and pasted it here....LOL. Even the leaves are somewhat similar
I may have to seek this type out and see what its about. Maybe there first cousins.
Please post taste whentime comes im very curious.

Now i must admit but im not getting soft that yellow fig made me do a double take it has very nice color.

Thanks for posting those pictures.

Hi Sal and Martin.

I am getting some serious fig envy here.  Those figs look fantastic.  Imagine a bowl of MBVS and LSU Gold together: Beautiful!

Thanks for sharing these great pictures, and please do let us know what you think of the taste.  I have MBVS and LSU Gold plants, but they are new this year.  Maybe some figs next year with some luck!  ;-)

Best wishes.

LSU Gold and BMVS

Here are pictures of my BMVS that I got from Tim. One fig is just about ripe but it isn't as dark as Sals. Of course this is a one year old plant and first figs. I have it wrapped to hide it from the birds and hope to eat it in a couple of days.

This is the one thats almost ready. If you look closely you can see it's starting to ooze.

Looks good, Gene & Sal. I wish I had a picture of my first one I picked yesterday eve. I put it in my shirt pocket fully intending to post a picture and by the time I finished picking the other figs and untangling bird netting from the buttons on my shirt over & over again(I learned to wear a t-shirt), the fig was smashed. It tasted very sweet & rich  it was very ripe.I'll post a picture when I get more. The bird netting(as much as I hate to admit it---hate the stuff) has allowed me to let my figs ripen fully without having to worry about the birds. The additional flavor in a fully ripe fig is amazing---even my Celeste.

Tim, I just got in a few minutes ago and took one more look at that MBVS and had to pick it. And...........I'm not sorry. It only took that one small fig to tell me how great a fig this one is gonna be. It was very rich in fig flavor and in sweetness, somewhat like a Celeste that ripens in hot dry weather to the point that is starts to shrivel up on the tree concentrating the sugars and taste, but different than Celeste. Very, very good that's for sure. Here are a couple of pictures of it. The flash makes it seem redder than it really is. The first is without flash and shows the true color to the naked eye.

I picked some Celestes yesterday that were starting to shrivel one the tree. I ate one after the MBVS and the taste is similar, but the MBVS was better, IMHO. I know it's going to be a winner down here in Zn9. Thanks guys for the comparisons.

Thanks Sal!  Wow!  The MBVS and LSU really are beautiful together!  I think I'm going to make that my screen-saver!

And thanks for the picture and info on the MBVS Gene.

I really, really can't wait!

Best wishes to all.

Thanks Herman for introducing this fig and thanks Tim for sharing with me. For  a first year fig to show this type quality is a great plus. It has a good flavor sweet, but not overly sweet like LSU Gold where the sweetness dominates the flavor, you can taste the fig or fruit flavor and if left to sit on pallet the flavor will linger for a nice while which I really enjoy
