OMG Sal, those pics just made my mouth water yummmm. Those figs look delicious Looks like I have to wait atleast another month to eat some ripe figs. Thanks for posting those lovely pics

Sal, I hope you didn't mind, but I put pictures of my MBVS on your other post.

Great picture here, looks like you're ready for a feast. I have a couple of LSU Golds that should be ready in a few day. I can't wait to taste them.

Did you find with the MBVS figs the just ripe figs better that the over ripe ones. I found that the richness faded. It's hard to make a good evaluation when you only have a few figs.

Thanks for the continuing updates.

Hi guys I posted pics and then waited for wife to get out of bed. We drank our coffee and then sat down with a piece of bread and enjoyed. It was nice for a change to get more than a few at a time. The Conadria was like a jam i put a piece between bread and made a sandwich boy they were good each one with it own flavor. The LSU Gold was not quite ripe but still good. Gene the MBVS were very good and none were overly ripe as per my taste. As sweet and full the Conadria was it had a unique flavor that I enjoyed. It was the sweetest in this trial

lol. The Blk u/k are smaller so far as compared to last year but the trees are producing a lot more fruit

Sal I'm glad to hear about the Conadria's. I have a yearling tree with 4 or 5 figs on it and they are a very nice size. I just hope they ripen. Thanks for the update.

Sal
Thanks for posting yummy yummies.
To keep things in proper perspective for the ripening time, can you tell when do you see fig embryos appearing on your trees.
I just had my first Desert king after reading your post and seeing your pictures. Could not wait any longer. Two out of 5 fruits on the tree were ripe and I left one for my wife who was still asleep. It was soft, sweet and good figgy taste (sorry, not familiar with food connoisseur terminologies- & have lost the camera around the house).

Ottawan to keep it short mid April

Sal mid April.... lol thats early.
When does your season come to close ?

Thanks Sal. That figures. You are almost two months ahead of us (Ottawa). That means early September or as early as end of August for the main crop ripening for us here which has been the normal schedule in a normal summer year.

Wow!  Sal, Sal, Sal, Sal!  How Bout those figs!!!  Man those look so good!  Great work!  Isn't it great to reap the harvest!  This proves you've done a fantastic job!  Keep up the good work!  Wow!

Thanks Martin hopefully not till mid January for the stragglers end. ;)

Ottawan I think I was 2-3 wks behind in start of embryos showing Will have a better idea next season for sure

Dennis, How Bout Those Figs!!!! They are just starting to take off ripening and am hoping for a few more flushes like last year, even with the record breaking cold for us I picked my last in mid Jan. Not the same quality as earlier in season but still edible and enjoyable.

Gene, I think we both got our Conadria from A/E around the same time in July 2009 correct me If I'm wrong. I am really looking forward to seeing comparison pictures

You're right Sal, I got mine at the same time. It's been a grower for sure. It's roughly 4' tall and gaining daily. I have no other tree that grew anywhere close to that.

By far the best tasting fig was black U/k The sweetest fig was the Improved Celeste followed by Lsu Gold, Brunswick and the least of my likening was the BT

Looking good Sal's, I'm guessing those are all main crop?

Where did you find the Black unknown fig?

Oh Sal thats great to here about the  black U/k that you like.

Was there by chance rich taste with a little seed crunch and not overpowered by the sweet taste and then it lingered on your palate for a bit.

Just curious.....   ; )

Bass the black unknown came from my uncle in Hawthorne NY. I believe the mother tree is from MT Etna area in Sicily. I have passed a few along for better evaluations but still all in first season and waiting for input.

Martin very nice flavor and not over powering sweet. i picked at different stages of ripeness. This fig does not sour and closed eye so can be left on tree to where it is shriveled then you really taste the sweetness and flavor, nice seed crunch.
Also the cut figs in picture were the riper ones

Sal, did your uncle keep the black unknown in a pot or was it planted outside, at Hawthorn, NY.?

Could you describe the flavor of the black unknown Sal?

Thanks for the pictures.

Bob

Hi Robert, the tree in Hawthorne was grown in ground and protected each year by covering

Wow that is some serious fig porn!!!!!!! I need to get out of the frigid tundra  called connecticut and move down south so I can have fresh figs all year long!!!!!

Sal, if possible can you describe the flavor of your black unknown from Hawthorne, NY.

Thanks.

Bob
