A few VDB cuttings for grabs or trade

Hi Everyone!

I just took a bunch of cuttings from my VdB.  Some are loaded with figs.  I think those will just dry up and fall off in time.

By the time I chop the long ones into 3 pieces, I should have 5 or 6 groups of cuttings.  If I have already promised a trade, please pm me.  I've been so busy with our new property, there is zero time to keep records.

Here is a photo with a kleenex box for size reference.  Some of the cuttings are pretty fat, and others are just your normal cuttings.VdB.Cuttings.2014.jpg
So, PM me with your address if you are interested.  I'll package them with some fat and some thin, some tips, some mid cuts.  If you can't trade, postage would be nice, but not a deal killer.  Hard times for many, and I get it!

These were just lopped off today, and some fell into the dirt.  I'll cut the dirt off prior to shipping.  Latex flows on these.  Tree has no leaves, but was still trying to bring those figs to the ripening stage.

They are going fast.  I think I can get 3 more groups out of the batch.  First come, first served.  I will make sure there are 4 - 5 nodes per cutting.

Great to see you posting again Suzi

Very nice of you Suzi

Thanks for the offer and for sharing the nice pic.  Those are nice cuttings, looks like you've got a pretty healthy VdB :)

My first fig plant was a VdB from EL about 18 months ago.  When it arrived, I scrubbed the roots and planted it directly in full sun, at which point it promptly died down to the ground (I readily admit to having no idea what I was doing back in those pre-F4F days).  It *sort of* came back to life and tried to grow some weak shoots this year, but remained really stunted and died late in the summer.  It was kind of sad.  On the bright side, all of the fig plants I've gotten since have been treated better and are flourishing, so I think I'm ready to provide a good home to a new VdB now :)

very nice offer, was this at the new house or in a pot from old house. some really nice cuttings.

What a generous offer and a great group! So happy to have recently joined. I am already learning a lot. I am unable to PM from my phone so have to let this wonderful opportunity pass but it is still very nice of you.

That's a great offer on a top notch fig.

STOP!!  All PM's previous to this post will receive 2 or 3 cuttings!!  Too many responses!  I wish I had more!  These cuttings are from my monster tree at my old house.  We went down there to get grapevine cuttings and I noticed the VdB was dormant.  So, I got the lopers, and started lopping!  That tree snaked it's roots out of it's pot and has been growing very big for a long time.  It's too big to be dug up, so I really went crazy with cuttings.  We will dig it up and try a transplant next time we go back, but a lot will be lost in the process.

We have an air layer from it here, in ground, but it was just planted this summer and I'm not going to prune that one this season.  If I missed you this season, there's always next!

No more PM's please :-))

Listenstohorses,

You need to unblock private messages.  I need your address and can't contact you.

Suzi

Ed,

PM me your address, and if I can make it happen, I'll PM you my Paypal info. The cost of shipping will be on the envelope that you receive from me, and you can reimburse through Paypal.

If I can't make it happen, I'll let you know.  I'm packaging all up tomorrow according to the amount of requests and trades.  All the cuttings are in damp newspaper in the cool garage at the moment.  There were a couple on tour VdB here that were crossing through the middle, so in the interest of tree shape, I pruned 4 of those today.  I should have enough to get one or two to you.

Suzi

Don't need cuttings, but this is so very nice of you!!  ; )

I will ship tomorrow.  Packaging it all up today.  It's very random.  I tried to put at least one tip cutting in each bunch.  One fat mid cutting, and one thin.  To be fair to all, I put each group into a padded envelope so I can't see what I'm sending to who.  This is a random blind send, and all have been spoken for.

Good luck rooting them.  I hope they arrive in good shape!

Thanks for your generosity Suzi, I appreciate people like you who take time to spread their blessings ;)

Suzi…… you made my day!

Your beautiful little Viollete de Bordeaux cuttings arrived yesterday in good condition.   Thank you for your generosity and efforts to get these babies out.   VDB will be a welcome addition to my wee orchard.

Love the cuttings:)
They have been washed, waxed and fridged in Zip-Lock bag until the end of January. They will be joining the happy fig family soon ,
Thanks a million Suzi.

Suzi,

The cuttings arrived today! Thank you so much! I will start babying them now. Your generosity is appreciated very much! I hope I can return the favor sometime.

Regards,

Very Nice of you indeed:}

My beautiful VdB cuttings arrived today, thank you Suzi!  Here they are, each about 5" long, with my 2" wide tv remote sneaking into the pic:

The cuttings arrived today and are GREAT!!  Thanks for sharing Suzi.  Charles Sitter, Tulsa, OK

Go your VdB cuttings today and they look wonderful.  Large enough to make two out of each.  Rooting 2 half cuttings now, rest went in the fridge.  I was getting very anxious, no mail on Monday because of the holiday and no mail for us yesterday since we were getting dumped on with about a foot of snow.  These will really add some class to my collection.  Thanks for your generous offer.

The one in the 1st pic will be moving outside into the ground soon.  The one in the 2nd pic was recently transplanted from its starter cup into the ground inside a greenhouse.  (Most of the leaf damage was due to my misuse of neem oil, resulting in sunburn.)

Thanks again, DesertDance!

Nice figs, but those can't be VDB.  They don't have those long necks, and the leaves look different.  VdB leaves have fingers.  The figs should have a red eye.  Hmmmmmmm  I know I sent Vdb, but maybe I stuck something extra in there?  I'm stumped!

Suzi

So, just hiked up the hill and looked.  VDB in a greenhouse might perform differently than one in full sun.  My VDB is loaded with figs, some really big, but they all do have a neck on them.  They are kinda fat figs, and the neck droops when they are ripe!  The leaves shouldn't look that different, but on the one tree I inspected, not all leaves were exactly the same.  Most were.  All my figs are reddish with the red eye, but in a greenhouse, the color change may happen later.

Happy they are growing well for you!

Suzi
