a first for me!

Well this day started out pretty good for me, I was out watering my in-ground fig trees and was at my Aldo's just a watering it and cussin whatever got my Salerno yesterday

I saw something crawling around on top of the mulch...It was a darn Mole, well it was me against that mole, I whacked that little Bas*&^%,with my garden hose nozzle, it now resides in Mole hell, I will leave it  for the feral cats we have here, They love killing Gophers, I hope they like that Mole, but if they don't get the thing pretty soon they will have baked Mole(it is supposed to get up to 105F today.

The aligators help keep the mole population down in our area.  However, with their short legs they cannot reach those fig stealing mocking birds.

REALLY???????????

Yep, I have yet to see one of those pesky moles in my yard. We got out from under those high temperatures that you are continuing to see.

Here are a few pictures of one of "dem mole eating" alligators. This was actually taken in my back yard. If you look close enough you might see the remenats of a dead mole next to this gator's mouth....... );>)  (or maybe that was just a piece of chicken.)

HAHA......That is what they say Huh?

over 10 yrs ago, my company sent me to florida for team work session. they treated us like kings. on the buffet table, they had gator nicely cooked. i liked it so much once i got back to nc, i went to first cajun place to treat myself to gator again.

needless to say, that cajun place didn't know a thing about cooking. it was most nasty stuff i had in long time. like fig, i guess gator is best when fresh.

pete

When a "real" Cajun cooks gator....it usually is very good.  A large percentage of Cajun men in my area are excellent camp cooks.  Let a few Cajuns gather around a fire.....and you can bet your butt that SOMTHING is going into a cast iron pot and get cooked in that fire. Aaaaeeeeeeeeeh!! Let the good times roll. Too bad if the nearest thing around was a gator.

The "Swamp Men" Discovery channel program was filmed not too far from my house. Those "real" Cajun guys make a good living catching those alligators.  The program "Son of Guns" is about an ex Marine Cajun guy who runs a speciality gun shop called "Red Jacket Arms" in Baton Rouge. Man is this guy creative. They developed a special new "gator gun" to send big ole gators to gator heaven. Watch either of these two programs to see some "real" Cajuns in action.

Pete, you learned a valuable lesson. Cajun anything outside of Cajun land isn't Cajun. Sorry you had to endure that but lots of people out there trying to make a buck on our good name.

I just want to point out that if that alligator was in Texas, it would be twice as big, if not three or four times bigger.  ;)

The important thing to remember about eating gator is to eat it fresh, just like anything else that lives in the water.  Once you freeze it, it's worthless.  I always ask first before ordering from any menu.  Most people can't get it fresh, so they order frozen steaks of it or they get the frozen breaded tail chunks.  They are stringy and taste like crap.

Cecil - you're hired.  Its hard to walk in my yard and not twist an ankle in a mole run.  I can declare war on the things and get them outta my yard, but the neighbors don't  - so I get them right back.

...and I thought I had a problem with rattlesnakes.

good to know about the frozen gator...place here sells it at $80/lb. I've resisted due to the price but now I know I'm not missing anything.

Sorry to take this thing way off topic but
Here on the Suwannee river there are a good many gators but more people are injured every year by sturgeon.
They come up in the river to spawn and they like to jump a boat will be going along an eight foot sturgeon jumps and you get a face full of fish.
Its not pretty

Wow daygrower.  I had to go take a look - I have never heard of the Gulf Sturgeon!  We are starting to get the Asian Jumping Carp in Tennessee, but they don't get 8 foot long thankfully.  Be careful boating on the river!

Taking it off topic don't bother me none!

I guess you guys in LA have the same problem with stergeon in your rivers they must be all around the gulf.

We guys in Louisiana have what we call "Cajuns"......who are well known to keep the population down on anything edible. If it walks, crawls, flies, swims, or jumps......you can bet it is going into the black iron pot. Sauce Piquant, Jambalaya, Gumbo, Blackened, Cajun fried, Fricasseed, Etouffee, Creoled............etc., its all good. I am a "certified" Cajun.

We do too but if you kill a stergeon you get a trip to the pokey

Last year we had a bunch of local Cajuns go WAY UP  NORTH to Baton Rouge. There must have been several hundred of dem Cajuns marching with their signs in front of the State Capital in Baton Rouge. They were making a bunch of noise as Cajuns do and they were demanding to see the Governor right away. Upon hearing all of the noise and commotion outside his office, Bobby Jindal (our Indian American Governor) went to the steps of the Capital building to see what the heck was going on.

Turns out, those Cajuns were pissed because the Duck season was too short this year because of the BP oil spill. Their Cajun leader and spokesman demanded of the Governor that he extend the Duck season by another month. Governor Jindal then asked..............And just what do you propose to  call that new month??? Y'all hunt dem ducks 12 months out of the year right now!!
