That will be a lot of work and/or expensive to move a tree that large. I think most people would rather buy a tree for 20$ than go through that hassle.

If I was 20 yrs. younger I would take that offer in a New York minute... I live in N.J. and I'm about 1/2 hour from that persons yard...unfortunately the heaviest tree I pick up now-a-days is a 10 or 15 gal. potted tree...need one of the young bucks to go up there and claim themselves a nice tree.

I emailed him/her we will soon see

Hope you get that one Tony...looks like a nice tree...good luck.

Lots of cuttings for sure!

I hope so to and I hope its got good fruit on it even if its a Brown turkey my dad loves all fruit so its a win win.

foreverfigs you are right
digging that tree out should give some backache......

that's a huge one. hope it's not BT.

I got a response the tree is still available have to call today after 2pm.

Even if it is BT ill make Jam and my Dad will eat them all. Heck Ill eat some to.And with all that tree I will graft onto it.

Hey FF you said 1/2 hr from that persons yard ?? does that mean you know who it is ?

well.. i guess grafting practice and rooting experiment will work well with BT :)

if it produces as much fruit as the owner says it does it's good for my dad he would love to have it I just hope it's not too big to dig up can't really see all the trunks in the ground at this point but I will know better when I speak to the owner later this afternoon I will find out what kind of figs are on it at least if they are dark or light.

I am betting it is Celeste just looking at the leaf pattern. If i am right, Celeste is good tasting. I believe what you have out there is in bush form tree with multiple branching. It sounds like the only thing you will invest in is TIME and LABOR. But since the tree is dormant, and mature..you may see fruits this year. No worries on rooting. It's already established. If your into grafting, you have plenty of stock. Spring is coming and then summer, if it bears that much, I would sell it to locals, "U pick" your own fruit on Craigslist- lol

Congrats Tony.

Its still there I spoke with the owner she hates the tree she has tried to kill it several times cut it down to the ground etc and the tree keeps coming back there golf ball size black figs that ripen in aug sept ? so who knows the tree is about 7 foot tall and as wide as an suv YIKES and I have to get it out of the ground.

Wow,what a nice big tree, how old is that tree?
Do you know what type it is?

Not yet.

Not going to be easy.

Tree is in bush form,
half the roots are growing under the fence
on the next door neighbor's property.

You are going to have to radically prune this tree
as you will not be able to remove most of the root mass.

In addition, cutting the roots that go under the fence
will take quite a bit of effort, even with the proper tools.
You will need a van to transport this, even tied up.

There is going to be a much larger hole than the home owner
anticipates, which may cause grief for you.

Lots of work for an unknown, IMO.

In the tri state area,
there are fig trees in many backyards,
so its not so unusual for this offer to sit unspoken for.

Reality is, its would cost the homeowner a couple hundred
dollars to hire someone and remove it,
so give it away for free,
and they hope the save the expense.

I asked the owner how many trunks it has she said 3 ? I will probably cut the tree down a bit and as far as the roots that's what my chain saw is for im sure it will come back from the dead once planted in its new happy home and as far as the hole I can only fill it with whatever material is on sight so after its out and filled to the max with her material im done it will be in the truck before the hole is filled anyway so she can yell all she wants LOL ill just drive away not to be rude but what else could I do at that point but im sure it wont come to that she seems pretty reasonable. And I will do whatever I can to fill it.

How can that big bush be only 3 trunks.

Either way,
wish you luck with the adventure.

Let us know how it works out.
