At home, I do not have any good windows for plants. This window in my office at work faces SSE and has been ideal for my young cuttings. I was able to 'borrow' an extra shelf unit from a storeroom and now I get to enjoy and care for these at work. Just need a few more inches between shelves since they are growing so fast... These 30 fig babies are all in 32 or 44 oz drink cups except one in a small pot - I found I had planted it upside down and repotted it lying sideways in this pot so the shoot could extend straight up and I could keep the mass of roots pretty well covered with potting mix.
Very nice use of window space! Good job!Suzi
Are any of your coworkers now interested in figs? :)
No one yet has asked for cuttings or a plant, but if I take in fresh figs in the future that could change :)
Looks great Ed. I have the worst luck with cuttings. My best results have been with fresh cuttings right in to potting mix. Do you get a lot of gnats? That seems to be another problem I have?
Tony, I had gnats last year which I got under control. This year I moistened my potting mix with water to which I added Gnatrol, no gnats seen at all. That BT for gnats works pretty well, I think.
