Do you apply saliva on the branch when you graft? I see some old people on YouTube putting it in there mouth right before they make the connection, why do they do that? I just did a graft using a little saliva, will it work or did i do something wrong?
From what I read, you must keep the tools cleaned with alcohol to make sure no creatures grow in the joint, so, putting in your mouth beats the cleaning efforts as there is tons of bacteria living in there... I am not convinced this is a good thing.
I think it may be a case of people now being germophobes. I think everyone needs their pound of dirt including the figlets. There was a reason they did it that way I would have to guess but the science behind it alludes me. In my personal experience the old ways sometimes work better than the new and improved. Just my 2 cents.
It is to keep the scion moist while they prepare the rootstock side.
I use the lick and stick method. The ancient fellow I learned it from has done it for decades.
Can a bad graft damage your hole tree?
