A New Fig For Me- PICS ADDED

Hubby and I went to Zaino's yesterday. They had quite a few fig trees in stock, most were Monrovia grown. I bought a Corky's Honey Delight.
I didn't really know anything about it . It's description was green fig ,amber center, sweet with a back note of honey, two crops . Figs are firm , juicy and of excellent quality. Prized for it's vigorous growth and bountiful harvests .

How could I resist? Besides a good size tree was $59.99 - great price!
This tree has a good amount of small fgs on it already.

There were a few threads here on Corky's , all good !

So I'm a happy girl today -

Congrats Pattee!!!! You're gonna be eating figs in a minute!

Congratulations!  Let us know how you like it!

Thanks Tami and Shailesh !

Congratulations Pattee . I have that fig, no figs yet, mine is just a rooted cutting. Good luck with it.
Vito

Sounds like a nice tree.  Good luck with it and let us know how the figs are.

Thanks Vito and Schaplin . I'll get some pics of the brebas and post when they are ripe.

Great score Pattee! That tree is hard to come by here on the east coast. I may be heading back to Zaino's at some point soon as I think this winter may have killed all my bigger trees even though they were in my shed. All my little ones were in the garage and did great at least.

Johnnie, they had about 10 of Corky's if I remember right . Sorry to hear of your trees . I have about 5 larger trees that have nothing on them as yet (potted). I'll keep the fertilizing and watering up until late summer - hopefully they will come back at the roots if nothing else. Funny, all my little ones did well too. I lost 1 for sure and a few others are still questionable. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Good luck this season and at Zaino's!

I have never heard of Zaino's but will have to check them out.  I see they are not too far from Hick's so it may be worth the trip and stop by both places.

BTW.  My 2 in-ground trees (which I never cover) are just starting to show some new growth at the base.  Nothing up top yet.  Still have fingers crossed.

Congrats on your new trees Pattee :)

Bill I haven't been to Hick's in a while let me know if it's worth a trip there will ya?

Zaino's had Atreano gold, Mission, one or two Italian purple/red , one Italian blk, Kadota, Brwn turkey. The Italian varieties were grown from their own stock which may or may not have been from BC cuttings , it's been questioned.
Their prices are good. The other varieties were Monrovia grown.

Happy hunting!

Thanks Aaron!

Not yet Shailesh , will take some and post in a day or two.

Sounds like a great purchase, P. I'll look forward to seeing the pictures.
I myself scored a similiar purchase at a nursery here in Athens, Georgia -  a very healthy LSU Purple with many baby figs on it for US$29.00...cheap, I thought! I would post a pic of that new tree, but for some computer reason the forum won't allow my pics...it says they "exceed the maximum file size of 1 mb." Need a solution for that!

Joe

Joe Athens,

If you took the picture with an iphone, you can email the pictures to yourself and pick the small size - this will dramatically lower the size.  Otherwise, load them into a photo editor and resize/save with smaller size.

Andrew

Thanks for the "hot tip" Pattee. My friend just picked up 2 from Zaino's, one for each of us. I tried pretty hard to get Uncle Corky's last year and really had no luck. Thanks again.

Pattee-

Much good luck with your new addition.  Please update this thread from time to time and show us what this newer variety can do.  Also, some critiques regarding vigor, etc. would be welcome.

Frank

Here's Corky !!

Johnnie , I'm glad you and your friend got one . It's good to share finds !

Shailesh , it will stay in a pot . I'll up pot it in a 5 gal or larger.

Joe , sounds like you got a great deal !  Try uploading your pics to Photobucket - it's free and easy to use.

Frank , thanks will do an update . As you can see the one really large breba will be interesting to taste- soon  ! :))

Pattee,

Very nice and healthy fig.
Congratulations

Francisco

Pattee,
Congratulations on your new trees. Love the happy dance too.

Norhayati

Hey Pattee....Nice looking tree.  Looks like a good fruiter!  It's loaded with figs!!  Good luck with the new 'child-with-chlorophyll'.

Frank

Hi Pattee,
Good find and a good purchase .
Just check that the ties to the stack are not too tied and loosen them a bit for the trunk to be able to thicken.

Hi JD, thank you , yes , I planned on taking the plastic restraints off . I use the velcro instead and keep check on them to make sure they don't girdle the tree.
