A Nice Visit with Rafed

Just had to let everyone know that I met Rafed this weekend. My fiance and I were invited for the fig tour and dinner. What a treat!
Rafed is just as I expected him to be--only more so! Just a very genuine person, and pretty much all heart. As you all already know, he has quite a sense of humor, too.
His whole family made us feel so welcome, and they fed us all kinds of good stuff, which included some wonderful home-cooking. It was awesome!
The figs themselves fill a large portion of the backyard, big, little, everything in between. I was starting to lose track of some of what I'd already seen after 10 minutes or so. Lots of different plants from lots of different places, and he has kept track of everything.
I had agreed to take a large VdB/Brown Turkey combination tree home, just to help Rafed make room for more, (such a pal, I am) but I went home with 'a few' additional cuttings and trees. It was like Fig Christmas.
Thank you, Rafed, for your generous hospitality!

Annie,

You and Allen are most welcome. It was a pleasure having you over.
Too bad the time went so fast.
Glad you had a good time and got the treats to remember the occasion.

I would have done more if it wasn't for the rain.

The welcome mat is always at the front door for you.

sound like a great pre wedding gift..... congratulation!

rafed is a great guy no doubt

what is a combination tree? is it same like with other fruit trees? is it a common practice when it comes to figs?
i think its the first time i see someone talk about a combination tree on the fig forum

Does this mean AnnieBee is also a Michigander (Michiganian)?

:-)

~Chills

chills - i would love to see the kiwis you are growing

are they good?

Eli, thank you. The combination pot is just that--two separate trees in one pot!

Chills, yep, this would be my state. How many of us are there altogether?

Did you get to sample any figs on your visit .

Martin, we got to try Rafed's Unknown Greek, which is a very large and beautiful single trunk tree in a huge container. It has a nice big green fig, but probably not to your liking! I ate it too quickly to tell you more. Also a Celeste, which I absolutely loved!

Martin,

I'm going to gather a few of our fig friends and come to your place and sample your figs.

Even the white ones.

AnnieBee good for you. : )

Rafed um no I'm sort of a introvert in regards to meeting people i do not know.
What white ones ? No way you snuck a plant into my yard without me knowing about it the very next day.  ; )
VdB coming in now + and another - one of those so called best (yet to ever taste) "hopefully soon".

Martin, I'm the same way with strangers.

I did very much enjoy meeting Kit (who doesn't post much) and Sal down in Florida, Gene (Colin) and his wife on their way back home, and also Rafed .... at a truck stop of all places (had great country fried steak, too).

I recommend spending some time with Rafed if you get a chance.  He's a good man, very easy to talk to, and worth the time.  Everyone that I've met from this forum has been in that same vein, but Rafed is really the creme of the crop ;)

Besides, he's already been to your place.  I saw his boxers on the fence.

Well Jason,

Thanks for the kind words. I enjoyed meeting with you too.

But no Calvin Klein for me. It's fruit of the loom all the way.

I only use the word "boxers" because that is what I wear.  It may have been something else on the fence, I really don't know.  I wasn't looking ;)

I know what you meant

Um those were plain stripe fruit of the loom and no FIG design on them and judging by waist size  and length of them shorts -well lets say you must be much taller than me at least 6"1 or taller.

No ?

Martin,

Yes, no, maybe or might

I look away for just a day, and this thread dissolves into a discussion on underwear?

Martin, I know what you mean about being shy. I am much more comfortable behind my computer!
You would not regret meeting Rafed, though. It would do you good! A few beers and you would be like brothers!

Annie types,
would not regret meeting Rafed, though. It would do you good! A few beers and you would be like brothers!

Annie after a few beers i may get thoughts how he would look in a womans wig and high heels.

Sorry Rafed.   ; )

Oh, Martin! You are terrible! (But I laughed out loud!)

That's a horrible picture Martin thanks.

What's on between the head and toes?
Speedo?
Fig leaf?

Martin,

No romp over here
