A Sight for Sore Eyes

Good day, it's been awhile since I've posted some pictures so here are a few.  A few weeks ago, I finally got my trees out of the green house, the shed and my garage.  My timing was great!  I fertilized them last week and since its been raining a lot.   Now is time to touch up on my irrigation system.  All of these trees in these pictures are in containers.  Some will be installed in my orchard and some will move over to my big lot and allowed to get bigger.  If you mouse over the picture you can see some of the figs listed in the photos.

SeedlessandPassion pic -- The large containers are my seedless varieties from left to right:  MaryLane, Marylane, Janice, Janice.  Those in black pots are my Purple Passion figs.  I truly believe Purple Passion is the same fig as Gulbeau.  Time will tell.

TurkeyGenoaPassion pic -- The name speaks for itself.  From left to right - Brown Turkey, Brown Turkey, Brown Turkey, Genoa, Genoa.

Hi Dennis,
its Grise Olivette not Olivette Grise I'm not being a stick ler but did grow this plant  !
Very nice plants and pictures you post.
You plants have leaves nice size leaves already wow.
We have to move to warmer grounds  .  ; )

I like your photos too!
How often do you water the self-watering pots?

Looks great. Can you tell us about LSU 156 please?

I certainly enjoyed them.  Would love to see pics of the orchard too.

Congratulations!  What's Spicewood?  I've never heard of it and it's not in Jon's database.  I hope they exceed your wildest expectations!

Looks fantastic!  You have great varieties in your collection.

Thanks guys. Yeap, you're correct Martin. I got the tag right on the tree but fat fingered several names in this post. Some figs in these pic, I did not list. I just got lazy.

LSU 156 came from another fig collector. I have no information on this fig at this time. But I will in months to come.

thanks for watching.

Brebas are starting to look pretty good this year!  This one is Strawberry.  This tree took a couple of years to really hook into this location before it started producing some very nice figs.

Dennis,
Have you had the opportunity to taste brogiotto Nero yet? If so please give your opinion. I have one in a one gallon pot right now.

Thanks for the pics.

Not yet, but maybe in a few weeks I will.

Pictures show your love to them figlets with all that mulching -they will give back too..

I hope so Eli. I use mini pine bark nuggets. But's it's hard to use mini nuggets for one gallon containers, but I try. Thanks!

Thanks for posting the pictures. Looks like a lot of work...
How are the self watering containers working?

Pete, they work very well. Some trees are fast growers like Atreano and can be a challenge if not watered daily. It' helps tremendously by having a drip irrigation system. All you have to do is pull weeds, chase birds and pick figs! I even found a way to water them all with liquid fertilizer!

Boy am I late or what!

Bob, Spicewood is an Adriatic type. Round shiny green fig with a dark red center. It's pretty good.

It's a cool name.   :)

Awesome Dennis, I'm soooo jealous

Hi Snaglplus,
Great collection !
Are the small pots meant to go away or to produce fruits at your home ? If the later, up potting now would give you strong growth this year .
It is strange to me, that you shuffle them in Zone 8a ...But ok, the leaves are already at an amazing size ...

Mine are still under the plastic bags - in 4 weeks they will come out.
I checked my BT and one ufti - they are already showing some popping brebas - lovely stupid trees ...
Here the weather has been mild so far, and I know of a supposed BT that did drop leaves but not a single fig . I'm curious to see if they will ripe after 6 months there waiting...
How one would call that : pre-brebas - left over maincrop - late maincrop - early brebas ? pig figs ? Or just lost figs ? Time will tell ...

JdsFrance, I don't understand you questions. Every tree of mine produces fruit at my home. This post was created in May of 2013. I only do the shuffle once, around the end of March. Currently most of my trees are being winterized indoors. We usually have one last freeze around Easter.

Hi Snaglplus,
I thought all messages where from 2014 - as we here write the dates in dd/mm and not mm/dd.
You have answered my question . My question was: are the trees in the smaller pots able to fruit for you or are they in those pots waiting for another home ?

Those in small pots depending on the cultivar, may fruit 2 or 3 figs. I upsize them to 16" pots in the same year, 2013.

Last May, my trees looked pretty good. I'm hoping they look either the same or better this year. Fingers crossed!!!!

would love 1 or 2 cuttings of malta purple red and negretta, can you spare?  will be grateful, I will pay for postage I am in California

Love the wall of figs !
