A super tasty Unknown

Last year a gentleman from a spanish origin walked into the store and handed my wife two cuttings from his fig tree. She must've mentioned to him that we like figs.  All he said was that this variety is his favorite, and very productive. If I could find that person, I would thank him again. Perhaps we will bump into him someday.

To make a long story short, I lost one rooted plant to wild rabbits and did not really know what my wife brought home that night until this summer.
The plant yielded about 6 or so fruits. The shocker came after tasting those figs. They had a unique flavor that beats many other varieties I have and I have over 30 or 40 varieties. So now I’m wondering as to what it could be. The color and shape of the fruit is unlike anything else I have.
If anyone could help in identifying this fig, I thank you in advance.

Good thing that one cutting.made it Sas. Can you say more about the flavor? Is different tasting or a more concentrated flavor that you find in other figs? Maybe the gentleman who passed the cuttings on will visit again and share more information. Time to give that tree special attention.

Mike, When my wife brought these branches, I thought that I was looking a t a brown turkey. The gentleman told my wife that it is unique and his grandfather planted it and since he is originally from Spain, I'm thinking that it came from that region.
I'm not good at describing flavors, but I can say that it tastes better than a Marseilles or an improved Celeste for sure.
There seems to be a nice balanced caramel flavor. Hopefully I will try to pin down the flavor better next year.
One thing, I've noticed when describing flavors, is that sometimes others could detect flavors that I might not be able to initially detect.

Sas, sounds like an excellent find.  It would be great if you could find the person who provided the cuttings and ask him more.  Could you also show an image of the leaves?

The problem is that my wife no longer works in that place. Perhaps we get lucky one day and meet him again, as he lives close to us.

Here are the leaves:

Nice tree and figs!  Good luck on your ID.

This bad boy looks a lot like a Chico Strawberry / Srassota.

Thoughts folks?

I call it the CVS fig. The next first two posters in this thread will get two free cuttings each.

"They had a unique flavor that beats many other varieties I have and I have over 30 or 40 varieties."

Still true?

All spoken for.

That's very generous of you Sas.  Thanks for sharing!  Hey, what does CVS stand for?

I love unknown figs...simply because at some point, somebody thought enough about them to haul them halfway around the world and then take care of them for a long time.

When I was a kid, I knew of at least 4 figs in my home town in NE PA...and as far as I know, none were in pots.  They were owned by grandparents of my friends and classmates and were family heirlooms.

CVS is where this fig was given to me. Since I don't know what it is, I called it CVS (after CVS drugstore). Perhaps in time we could find a more fitting name. But it remains Unknown as the leaves of Chico look more pointed in photo and this one's are more rounded.

If you get more cutting, I would love to root and raise one or two.

Looks like Lattarula Lattarula.jpg Kinda sorta...a little bit?
The plant is young, just over a year.  Can't compare the fruit, although it has a couple small breba with no color to the eye.

I have Latarula and there's very little difference between Lattarula and Marseilles. This one has a totally diferent fruit. Happy Fourth of July everyone.

Sas, the cuttings came today and they are mighty nice!

Thank you very much. I love unknowns, especially when they look this tasty!!

I second that Sas! Very generous of you, thank you! If anyone wants to trade cuttings (with at least a few months in the forums), please let me know!

Such a beautiful plant! Congratulations to the lucky winners! Im jealous!

Congrats to the winners and Sas for being so generous in sharing.
