A touch of cold

Last night we got down to -5 degrees with a 35 mph wind creating a wind chill of -15. all of my figs are un protected from winter weather. some plants in ground last summer. a few not even a year old but established with 3 foot growth. in the 20 degree temps today i have walked and looked at all 8 of the trees. a peters honey, a blue celeste, a hardy chicago, 2 purple magnolias, and three desert king. and i have observed no winter damage thus far on any of these trees.

I started this thread to update on all if any damage from not protecting these trees over winter even the very young ones. if anybody has anything to add by all means do so. this may be of help to members and those newer to figs to make informed choices about cold hardy figs. thats the goal any way.

Way North of you it was cold here as well it was predicted to go between 5 and 10 below not sure what it did .
Outdoor tree has a plastic portable around it it will be fine , inside garage temp was at 16 above as overhead door never opened this morning where trees are snoring well.

It has been -5f here also .
I am very interested in how your trees do . i am in zone 5a . i have been reading up on posablehardy fig cultivators to try here.
We had our first taste of winter here the last cpl days 4" snow hi wind -5 back up in 30s now.
AUSTIN

Warmer weather on it's way boys. It's 13F with light snow as I type this, and tonight's low is expected to be 15F. Appropriate for Groundhog Day, no?

Yes little by little as daylight increases, dusting of snow here with 1-2 inches overnight and a little more expected for several more days.

Your 3 Desert King might be fine but the fruits embryos,of the Breba Might not be.
Desert King is a good Breba Fig in climates with mild Winters but not in your climate or mine.
The fruit buds die first!
Edit Note:I apologies for the bad news, and suggest to trade 2 Desert king with people in milder climates, and get 2 early main crop cultivar in their place.
And:Thank you for the head up news, and keep us informed how they will come out of Winter, because
-5 F,is extremely cold for young fig plants, but I think they will be just fine in my opinion, except DK fruits Embryios.

We had -20.3C (around -5F) in January and so far my 2 Hardy Chicago and 2 Brown Turkey planted last year seem to be doing well...however the winter is not over yet.
