The following might help those who don't know, and is not meant to scare anyone.
You can expect a visit from a USDA officer if you purchase fig cuttings or plants from overseas for up to six months or more after your purchase on eBay. They have a list of every transaction on eBay.
Some plants and countries have priority over others. If you have the cuttings or trees and an officer shows up at your door,  expect your foreign trees to be  confiscated along the soil. The first time you will get a receipt.
The second time...I hope that there is no second time. If you have any questions, send them an email, they are friendly, courteous and always answer your emails or phone calls.
I was recently told that in TX for example, you cannot even purchase citrus seeds from another state.

Bexley, thats called job security...LOL, like where I work, maintence is always complaining about us breaking equipment but I always tell them if we werent breaking anything than we wouldnt need you.

Does anyone know how the import rules for Canada work as far as importing fig cuttings or seeds?
There is no fig production in Canada to protect.

They changed the rules, you will now have to order a pest risk assessment which could take up to two years and pay for it.  This does not mean you will get to import, only if they deem no risk is present, this is for EU to send to Canada, then you must get the import permit and phytosanitary certificate from the person who is sending them.  I believe that china and usa to canada you only require import permit and phytosanitary certificate to import.  I had my import permits cancelled last summer as they changed the rules for europe and I did not want to pay for the risk assessment.

Import permits are 40$ and phytosanitary should be around 70$ depending on country and nursery.

Sounds like it is cheaper to go on vacation to those great Fig destinations. LOL

If you grow a citrus plant from seed indoors, is it still a possible carrier of the Asian Citrus Psyllid?
Can you request the USDA to come test and register a plant? Does anyone have links to share on this process and fees?

Thanks for posting!! I don't think a container plant started from seed is at risk.

Umm hypothetically, what should someone do if they have seeds and/or cuttings already in transit unable to be cancelled? This is scary.

If the sniffing dogs catch it the first offence is a warning

I have a question... And I ask with sincere curiosity... Can't you just apply for a permit to import plants and plant products from the APHIS? It does take some time to get granted a permit but once you do, it's good for many years.

I ask because I actually have a permit, I collect/grow/breed clivia, which usually required import of seeds/pollen/plants from South Africa, Australia, Japan, China and New Zealand. It's a pain to have to send the permit wait for them to receive it and then attach the permit for the return shipment, it takes some extra time but your product gets right through quarantine and customs with it.

If any members need to have their cuttings shipped to me and use my permit, I'd be happy to help and then send them to you lol.

Would this make me a "fig enabler" lol

illegal *with* a permit? Does the same go for seeds? Everything I have found on Google so far is talking about phytosanitary certificates from the grower/seller and permits and then being inspected and having to quarantine the plant for 2 years.

Did something new go into effect?

Seeds can be imported under the small seed lot program, there are no special restrictions on fig seeds.

Oh wow! Crazy! Seems like there are counties other than Canada listed though. Just not the "fig countries". I mean if you need a cutting bad enough we can always have it imported to one of those countries and then into the US.... Lol. A lot a work, something I'd never do... Just yet at least haha
