A Visit with Bass

I will start by admitting that I am insanely jealous of Bass's little garden of Eden.

While I was there I was fed Jujubees, Passion Fruit, Paw Paw and figs.  I had no room for the Pomegranate.  My jaw dropped at that banana GROVE, complete with flowering banana trees, ripening persimmons and I can't remember what else.  There was just too much to remember.  There was something different everywhere I looked.

I knew there would be temptation, so I reserved 4 specific figs BEFORE I went down in order to keep myself from going wild.  Rrrrriiiiiiight.  I left with 1 pomegranate plant and <cough> fig plants.  And I didn't get everything that I want...and I think I want bananas. <groan>  There are some great-sounding figs from Monserrat Pons that I covet, particularly after taking a peek at the book that Bass has from Monserrat.

Since I made the trip in stealth mode, the plants are still in the car and I am going to have to trot them into the house over the course of the day.  Thank goodness for tinted car windows.

Bass and his orchard are pretty amazing, especially growing all of this in Pennsylvania.  It just shows that where there is a will there is a way.

And I too keep telling myself I have plenty of figs, but then I discover another fantastic must-have variety.

So far my wife has been great about this, but only because she has no doubt already given up any hope concerning my sanity about the fig orchard!  ;-)

I guess we could have far worse problems than growing figs, which is actually a very fun, positive, and productive hobby.

Best wishes to all.

John,

You omitted the fact that they are delicious and very healthful for us, as well.....

I'm a fignut enabler and have no trouble enabling myself as well as others.  :)

noss

Hi Noss.  They really are delicious and very healthy as well.

Among many other health benefitis, figs are a great source of anti-oxidants.

Take care friend.

Hi Jenia,

It sounds like a "must see" kind of place. It is on my list of places to go. Thanks for the great description and thanks for the laugh about fig stealth mode. The delivery truck was at my house this week and just a "few more trees" had to be sneaked into my house too. Lol
Eve

I've got two deliveries on the way . . . whoops, no make that three.

Is there a 12 step program for this?  ;-)

Best wishes to all.

Hi John,
yes there is a 12 step program.
Each step of that program you take brings in a new fig plant.    ; )

CJ, I'm glad you enjoyed your visit. I wish you had more time to show you around. Thanks for the compliments.

Any gardener no matter how they plan their garden, nature will improvise.

Pretty soon, my garden will go from a tropical garden into fall, and shortly it will look like that.

Hi Martin.  That was very funny!  ;-)

And seems to be proving true as well.

And Bass, the snow will surely come, as it comes even here much further South.  In the meantime, hope you have a great Fall, and we will all plan an even better year for next Summer.

Best wishes to all.
